Happy Hour: Bourbon and Lim

Apr 29, 2011

3.1 Phillip Lim Embellished Silk Dress (Net-a-Porter, $1500)

There is a lot going on with this dress.  Multiple colors.  Multiple fabric textures.  Multiple types of sequins.  It’s complex in a good way.  And so is the cocktail below, which is from Acadiana in D.C..

Sometimes, being complicated is a good thing.

Ingredients

1/2 ounce pastis
1 lemon wedge and granulated sugar
Ice
11/2 ounces bourbon
1/4 ounce amaretto
1/4 ounce Frangelico
1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
1 ounce chilled club soda

Recipe

Rinse a martini glass with the pastis. Moisten the outer rim of the glass with the lemon wedge and coat lightly with sugar. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the bourbon, amaretto, Frangelico and Simple Syrup. Shake and strain into the martini glass. Top with the club soda.

Perhaps 1/2 ounce bourbon instead of 11/2? Though I'd certainly say the recipe currently posted would be a lovely spendthenightonthefloor cocktail.

I should have written it as 1.5.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
