Dressed for a Shutdown

Apr 8, 2011

If you haven’t noticed, I appreciate gallows humor.  So when a very loyal reader (seriously, she’s been with me since the WordPress days) sent me this link, I had to share.  Had to.  It was imperative.

What does one wear during a shutdown?  A t-shirt emblazoned with your status, of course.

Are you essential?  Tell the world how much you matter!  You may not be getting paid, but somebody somewhere says that you are important!

Essential T-shirt $17

You can also find customized t-shirts for House employees, Senate employees and the employees of the different Cabinet departments.

Are you non-essential?  Well, your Boss may not think that you’re necessary, but the people at the bar might take pity on you if you’re wearing a non-essential tee.  A few drinks, and shirt pays for itself.

Non-Essential Tee $17

Right now, the store is just selling men’s sizes.  But maybe if we clamor enough, the ladies of the Hill can get a little love.  YAY! Women’s sizes.

Buy one! Because heaven forbid that everyone in town not know how we were deemed.  After all, D.C. is all about status.

Yes! Since I missed out on the 'I Survived Snowmageddon 2010' and couldn't find a good enough reason to buy the 'DuPont Circle Varsity Snowball Fighting Team' shirt since I live on the wrong side of the Potomac, I might just have to deem this a necessary purchase with my government funds! 🙂

Looks like I'll need to buy one of these… sigh…

Hmm I don't know about that orange one…. If our single income family just became a no-income family {luckily, he has been thrown the life ring and I won't have to drop out of law school}, I probably wouldn't drop the $17 🙂

WOW – those of us in the private sector are amazed by what is happening in Congress. But, hats off to anyone who can promote the lighter side. Put on your essential/non-essential shirt and either belly up to the bar or sport an attitude. Good luck to all you people, regardless of status. You get to pay the non-payment price, and they get to kick the rock while getting paid.

  6. Belle says:

Jamie-They come in any color. I'm just OBSESSED with orange right now.

  7. Terri says:

    Impressed!

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
