Under $50: The Perfect Clutch

Jan 7, 2011

Even if you don’t go out regularly, you need a fabulous clutch.  Living without one is really a crime against fashion.  Here are some reasons why:

You’re having dinner with an important client at a downtown eatery, and you hate that you have to bring your bulky purse stuffed with your everyday essentials.  Simply toss the clutch in your bag for later.

A friend set you up on a last minute date, and you have to fall back on your LBD.  A chic bag will really lift it, and since men hate big purses, you can look low-maintenance with a tiny bag.

Clutches are perfect for traveling because they fit inside your carry-on and take up very little space. Who needs a big handbag taking up shoe space in your suitcase when you have a collection of sleek clutches?

So what does the perfect clutch look like?  This.

BCBGeneration Pewter Clutch (Piperlime, $48)

It’s metallic, but it’s not obnoxious.  It’s big enough to hold a wallet, Blackberry, lipstick, travel hair brush (a Belle must) and a bottle of hand sanitizer (very important during flu season).  And the fold-over shape is very clean and modern.

Plus, at less than $50, this clutch is well made enough to look luxe but still affordable on a Hill budget.  The perfect thing for days, nights and weekends.

Hobo wallets are my go-to for daily use and using as a clutch. The patent leather style holds up great! A little more pricey, but worth the splurge.

    Men hate big purses? Really?

I may have to trot this fact out next time I get stuck smuggling the bf's PBRs into the movie theater.

Me: Wouldn't you find a smaller purse more attractive?

Him: No. Never. Think you can fit some pretzels?

  4. Belle says:

    Anna Della-

Men never fail to ask me whey women carry such big bags. It's like they don't understand what we could possibly need that much stuff for. A few years ago, I had a male friend shut down a blind date because the woman showed up with a HUGE Furla bag that was totally full.

His Explanation: I'm a low maintenance guy, and any woman who needs that much stuff for a work day/dinner date is more than I can handle.

The Range: Eyelet Tops for Summer

Airy eyelet fabrics are one of my favorite spring/summer looks. White is, of course, the traditional fabric. But white is tough to wear when you have a toddler, so let’s go with navy this summer.
