Happy Hour: Farewell Old Friend

Jan 7, 2011

Today’s Happy Hour post isn’t about a cocktail; it’s about a bar.  The Town & Country Lounge, at the Mayflower Hotel, is the epitome of the Washington, D.C. power bar.  The history is storied, the drinks are strong and the bartenders know all, but say nothing.

Sadly, on January 15, Town & Country will close its doors and my favorite local bartender, Sam, will be moving on.  To say bon voyage to the capital’s best strongest martini, there is only one dress that I want to wear.

Catherine Malandrino One-Shoulder Dress (ShopBop, $495)

Pour me another, Sam.

Happy Hour

WHAT?! what horrible news. The T&C room is such a classic washington bar! very sad.

  2. That is too, too sad. I've enjoyed many fabulous nights of cocktails with girlfriends there, as well as a very awkward first date (awkward despite a bottle of Dom being involved), and my first and only “unnamed source” interview was conducted there.

I will be sure to visit before the doors close!

My friends took me there the night after my first day of work in DC. I will miss it…

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
