Belle's Weekly Reading: Volume XVII

Sep 24, 2010

It may not feel like Fall in Washington, D.C., but if the calendar is to be believed, Summer is officially over.  Some of my readers will rejoice in the sweaters, scarves and tall boots that they are now allowed to wear, but I will be sad and disgruntled the very first time a Mid-Atlantic cold rain ruins my morning commute.

Ponytails. In preparation for the bad weather to come, Who What Wear has a feature on creating the perfect ponytail.  Sure, you don’t need expert tutelage to pull your hair up, but this is one hairdo that benefits greatly from a little professional help.

BFF.  If you don’t like ponytails or you would like to try something a bit more special, Jenn Falik at Beauty BFF has several helpful video tutorials on how to put up your hair, achieve the perfect waves or get the best blowout ever.  It’s like having an older sister who really knows her stuff.

No Capes. Sometimes it’s good to be dramatic.  A smokey eye, a towering updo, and a sky high pair of heels are all excellent ways to inject a little dram into your look.  But if you want something that is both utilitarian and dramatically chic, Coquette suggests that you try a cape instead of a basic coat.

Zesty.  When I find a new webiste to obsess over, I just have to share.  This week, I’m all about Zest Catcher.  This compilation of interior design, recipes and style photos is a must visit.  And as if I needed any more convincing, the site features two of my favorite style mavens (Holly Thomas of the WaPost and Betsy Lowther from Fashion is Spinach) in it’s Fashion Week street style roundup

See?  I knew she had good taste.

Catwalks.  If you couldn’t make it to New York for Mercedez Benz Fashion Week, you can get  dose of style locally at DC Fashion Week.  For more information, schedules and a list of their designers, click here.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
