Belle's Weekly Reading: Volume XIV

Sep 3, 2010

Out on the Town. I had high hopes that I would be able to attend New York Fashion Week.  But alas, between my current poverty level and my day job, it just isn’t going to happen (tear).  Luckily, D.C. will be joining New York and other world cities that are hosting Fashion’s Night Out events on September 10th.

FNO is part economic recovery package and part charitable event.  The stores of Georgetown will be open for all your fashion needs, and proceeds from the sale of the FNO eco-friendly tote ($10) will benefit the charity Labels for Love.  So get shopping!

Elle-egant.  Some of you have written to ask why there is a giant Elle Magazine logo at the bottom of my blog.  The answer is because that this site and all other members of The Style Coalition have partnered with Elle Magazine.  Elle sells the ad space on this blog, features CHS content on the Elle Magazine site and next week, will provide me with the use of runway shots from Fashion Week since I won’t be able to be there in person.

There will be other benefits for you and for me as the partnership grows, and I’m very excited to be a part of the Elle family.

Resort Season.  Cassandra at Coco + Kelley has lookbook photos from Nina Ricci’s 2010 Resort Collection and they are divine.  I’ll take everything on the page in size 4.  Thanks.

Aging Gracefully.  Ever since I discovered a single grey hair a few weeks back, I’ve been giving a lot more thought to my advancing age.  Sure, 28 isn’t old, but it’s time to start preparing for the time when I will be old.  As such, I was positively riveted by Cindy Crawford’s tips on aging gracefully.  Because who’s aged better than Cindy Crawford?

Hi-Lo Fashion.  The fashion Twitterers (Tweeters? Whatevs.) were all aflutter this week when a rumor hit the Interwebs suggesting that high end design house Lanvin would be partnering with H&M for a diffusion line.  Makeda at The Glamazon Diaries has all the details on the Lanvin/H&M collaboration.  I’ll be camping outside the Metro Center location, who’se with me?

Respectfully Acknowledged and Referred.  Those of you who voted in the Great CHS Intern Search will no doubt remember men’s fashion prospect Jamie.  Sadly, we could not find a home for him on this decidedly estrogen laced site, but in addition to starting his own blog, he is interning at District Cut.  I guess his actual title is contributing editor, but here on the Hill, we just call them interns.

Charitably Offensive. The famewhore Salahi’s continue to choke the life out of their 15 minutes of fame by selling the gown the stick thin blonde wore the night that they crashed a White House State Dinner.  Well isn’t that sweet of them?  I’m sure the resulting press had nothing to do with that decision.  Serious.  Will no one rid me of these meddlesome fameseekers?

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
