Color Me Sophisticated

Sep 1, 2010

Unlike Miss M, I don’t wear many prints.  It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that I prefer solids.  To keep my single shade pieces interesting, I try to blend new and different color combinations but it can be difficult to come up with fresh ideas.  So when I spotted this cute cardigan on the Anthropologie website, I was immediately taken with the mix of colors.

Summer Reminder Cardi (Anthropologie, $128)

I love the mix of mustard yellow, amethyst, and dark teal with different shades of grey.  Something about the palette seems very modern and chic to me.  So I decided to style an outfit utilizing this color combination.

Chelsea Flower Twisted Drape Blouse (Intermix, $230)

Faux Leather Belt (YesStyle, $45)

Double Serge Pencil Skirt (J.Crew, $118)

Steve Madden Katia Satchel (Zappos, $88)

Kate Spade Bertie (Zappos, $340)

If you wanted to try a different outfit in the same color palette, you could mix charcoal slacks with a teal blouse, purple sweater and yellow flats.

I think this color combination is unexpectedly sophisticated with it’s muted jewel tones and blend of neutral colors.  It’s the perfect way to transition from the bright hues of Summer to the softer shades of Fall.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
