Three August Recess Outfits

Jul 12, 2010

While most of Capitol Hill weeps for the loss of the Fourth of July Recess, I’m looking forward til August.  (This is my best effort to be optimistic, so let’s go with it.) And during August, I wear dresses and sandals (yes, sandals) pretty much every day.  Courtesy of Anthropologie, here are three outfits that I would love to be wearing this August.

Easy Breezy

Mathilde Drops ($24)

Baby’s Breath Dress ($168)

Detail Belt (Asos, $21)

Strappy Sandals (Forever 21, $18)

Fit to a Tee

Vagabond Dress ($138)

Aqua Chain Necklace (Bloomingdale’s, $15)

Nikki Strappy Sandal (Forever 21, $15)

Pretty and Printed

Three Little Rose Headband ($38)

Cotton & chiffon Tuxedo Cardigan (J.Crew, $89)

Catmint Dress ($80)

City Flat Sandal (Forever 21, $13)

I love wearing summer dresses to work. Some of them, however, are a bit too sheer for my taste. I don’t even know where I could shop for a slip, like my Gramma used to wear. What do I do? Most of the Spanx I’ve seen are like boy shorts. I want something that’s like a skirt slip so my legs are a bit more concealed. I hate it when I walk in thin skirts and you can see my full leg outline as I walk. Suggestions?

  2. LD says:

They make terrific half slips that I wear all summer long because of that reason. You can wear them with more things than a full-length slip since they just come to the waist. (But I’ll admit there is something that makes you feel awesome in wearing a full-length lacy slip under a cute summer dress!)

Also, Belle, love all the shoes from Forever 21. I had no idea they had such cute sandals right now.

  3. ~M says:

The larger department stores tend to have a greater variety for slips. Here’s a search from Macy’s, not a ton of choice, but half-slips are pretty basic so you don’t need too much choice. That Calvin Klein “solutions” one looks perfect, not too short or long and sits low on the hips so you don’t have waistband issues: https://www1.macys.com/search/index.ognc?SearchTarget=*&Keyword=slip&KEYWORD_GO_BUTTON.x=0&KEYWORD_GO_BUTTON.y=0&KEYWORD_GO_BUTTON=KEYWORD_GO_BUTTON.

  4. AT says:

I love that blue Vagabond dress. I’m always mindful of the cleavage and length of the skirts on the hill. I like to keep it tasteful and I think this dress is absolutely perfect for work. I’d buy it in every color. I like that a lot of these options are mix and match, too!

  5. Dr. Jean Grey says:

Thanks, ladies. I’ve never heard of a “half slip.” Time to look into it. Thank you!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
