State of the Blog: Welcome New Readers, Hello Old Friends

Apr 5, 2010

Boy, it’s been awhile since we’ve had a State of the Blog post.  But since we have so many new readers (Welcome!), I thought it might be time to review some of the Capitol Hill Style essentials.

The Resale Salon This weekend, I cleaned out my closet. I tried on every piece of clothing that I own and decided what had to go and what could stay.  And things that needed to be purged are listed in the Capitol Hill Style Resale Salon.

I listed a gorgeous purse from Hayden-Harnett, dresses by Karen Millen and Cynthia Steffe and two suits that would be perfect for a Hill staffer.  Everything is priced to move, so make me an offer.

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, allow me to explain.  The Capitol Hill Style Resale Salon is a Craigslist like service where fashionistas can place a listing for the clothing that they no longer wear.  If you’d like to place a listing, please see further guidelines, here.

I haven’t received as many entries as usual, so posting has been slow.  But depending on how many entries I have, we will post each week or every other week going forward.

Belle’s SartoriaList I receive a lot of e-mail from readers asking me which hair salon, dry cleaner, tailor and manicurist I use.  To save time, I put together a list of businesses that I patronize, Belle’s SartoriaList.  I update the list as often as necessary, but these are the businesses that I trust enough to give my business to and recommend to others.

Ask Belle and Ask Beau.  Need to know what to wear to a “creative cocktail” event? How to stay warm in a chilly, air-conditioned office? Or whether it’s faux pas for your boyfriend to wear pleated pants?  Belle and Beau are here to answer all your fashion related questions.  Send your style queries to capitolhillstyle (at) gmail (dot) com.

The Find: A Versatile Sweater Jacket

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
