They Call Me Mellow Yellow

Apr 5, 2010

When the sun starts shining and the flowers start blooming, I cast off the black shackles of winter and indulge in all the colors of spring.  And no color captures the mood of a bright, sunny, low-humidity (praise Jesus) day than yellow.  There’s just something about this happy hue that makes it impossible for you to have a bad day while wearing it.  Here are some fabulous yellow fashions to get you in the mood for cloudless skies and soft breezes.

Abuzz Cardi (Anthropologie, $88)

This sunny cardigan would be perfect to wear over a simple dress or flirty skirt and blouse.  It would also be great with jeans and white tee on the weekends.

Trina Turk “Etiquette Tropical” Dress (Bloomingdale’s, $248)

This is the epitome of a day-to-night dress.  You can add a white jacket with a belt or an easy sweater and wear this dress to work.  You could also add a swath of bracelets with a good evening shoe and wear it out.

Panier Wave Skirt (Nordstrom, $168)

If you are going to wear a bright yellow skirt, you need to keep the top more muted.  While I don’t prefer black (as shown on the model), you could wear black if you want.  I would recommend a white and yellow print blouse with a white cardigan and nude heels.

Lilly Pulitzer Ruffle Tank ($58)

A simple yellow tank that you can wear with navy, grey or white separates.  Pair it with a flirty skirt and a fun necklace for the perfect outfit to run errands or wear to brunch.

Kellie Eyelet Dress (Delia’s, $45)

Adore-a-ble.  Simple, fresh and perfect for a bright sunny day.

Ikebana Blouse (Leifsdottir, $198)

This top reminds of a 1950s Hawaiian print shirt, but in a good way.  It would look fab with a loose fitting white pant or a white pencil skirt.

My dark under eye circles have been the bane of my existence since I was 12. Is the cause lack of sleep? Dehydration? Sinus issues? Stress? Who the hell knows. But there they are, every day, telling the world that I am an exhausted working Mom.

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
