The Golden Globes: Belle's Best Dressed List

Jan 18, 2010

Finally, we’ve come to the end of our Golden Globes coverage and there is nary a faux pas in sight.  The following are my favorite evening looks from this year’s Golden Globes Red Carpet.

When you are pear-shaped, it’s important to find a dress that emphasizes your assets and minimizes your flaws.  Kate Hudson’s white Marchesa gown uses architectural details to add volume to her minimal bust and take the focus off of her hips.  Sadly, the look of her elegant train was ruined by a sopping wet red carpet.

After black, silver was the most popular color of the night.  However, most of the silver gowns were more tarnished than an old serving spoon.  But Dianna Agron’s pewter Badgley Mischka dress was just sublime.

I love the light ethereal quality of the fly-away gown.  Too often this style is done in a boho chic fashion that misses the mark, but this gown is a bulls-eye.  If she’s not careful, Dianna could become Hollywood’s next breakout style star.

With her perfect pixie cut, Ginnifer Goodwin looks cheeky and chic in her Vionnet cocktail dress.  Sadly, the flash from the camera makes the royal purple color of the dress look cobalt blue.  Either way, this dress is perfectly proportioned for Ginnifer’s petite frame.

So, who is Belle’s Best Dressed?  Who possesses the gown that twenty designers will be knocking off tomorrow?

Jane Krakowski’s purple gown combines several of this year’s biggest trends: the one shoulder, the sweetheart neckline, the gathered waist and sheer pleating.  Frankly, judging by the description the down should be overwhelming, but leave it to J. Mendel to turn all of those elements into a perfectly elegant evening gown.

There were plenty of gorgeous gowns on this year’s Golden Globes carpet.  So, who was your favorite of of the evening?

Dianna Agron’s dress is actually a Reem Acra. Just FYI.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
