Say Auf Wiedersehen to Sheer Tights

Dec 15, 2009

This weekend, celebrities turned out to celebrate Rouland Mouret’s new ready-to-wear collaboration with Net-A-PorterRachel Zoe, Amber Valletta (far right) and Demi Moore all looked fabulous.  Wish I could say the same for the usually gorgeous Heidi Klum.

From the waist up, Heidi looks great; but I hate sheer tights.  Hate them! In my opinion, there is no point in wearing solid, sheer tights because tights are supposed to be a cover-up.  If I can see every muscle, tendon and pore then you should have just applied a liberal coating of self-tanner and gone bare legged.

Sheer tights emphasize flaws, they don’t conceal them.  Either wear opaque tights, or don’t wear tights at all.  This has been a public service announcement.

Check back later today for some tips on how to wear patterned tights.

  1. Rory says:

Heidi looks like she was actually photoshopped into that photo. Ugh, she looks awful in there!

  2. MissLa says:

When you say "sheer tights" do you mean pantyhose?
As in "Don’t wear pantyhose, only wear tights" ?

or are sheer tights and pantyhose two different things?

  3. Belle says:

Pantyhose and sheer tights are indeed two different things, at least as far as marketers are concerned. But in my mind, if I can see skin, they might as well be the same thing. Opaque (check the package) is the only way to go.

  4. Kim says:

As soon as I saw the pic I began to wretch, sheer leg wear is the bane of my existence! Especially when it’s–white, off-white, mother of pearl, stucco, etc.–pigmented. Unless you’re under the age of 4….even that’s debatable. It’s like my kryptonite. I gag. I need to lie down

  5. Meghan says:

    hahaha. Those whites are HIDEOUS!!!

  6. Rachel says:

I agree that Heidi looks terrible, and that those tights are absolutely awful, but I don’t think all sheer tights are inherently awful. Sheer black, for one, can add huge sex appeal to a little dress and a pair of heels.

  7. M says:

There is nothing wrong with how Heidi looks in this pic. What is wrong with bracking the trand and start your own? Sheer white pantyhose do look sexy. Heidi looked fabulous in this pic. like to se more woman wear sheer white pantyhose.

  8. Gina says:

I would beg to differ. I don;t see why people should so vehemently hate it. It makes women look very elegant and lady like. I don’t understand how not wearing nude stockings started becoming more fashionable or a “better choice”. Wearing or not wearing is a personal choice.
Besides they do help to cover up blemishes or stretch marks which many may want to.
I think Heidi is looking every bit fabulous

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
