Five Spring Jackets Even an Intern Can Afford

Mar 30, 2010

This week, I will be dedicating my afternoon posts to the cadre of Hill interns who keep this government running.  The under appreciated and unloved young people who devote their time to our government deserve fashion recommendations that they might actually be able to afford.  So here are five wear-to-work blazers priced at under $100.

Rosette Sweater Jacket (White House, Black Market, $98)

This sweater jacket will help keep you warm in the frigid, air-conditioned Capitol.  After all, bitching about how cold you are is not the best way to make a good impression.  Also, you can pair it with black or white separates which will help you get a decent amount of wear out of it.

Full Circle Linen Blazer (Asos, $65)

Bright coral, anyone?  This blazer will look lovely with a white/cream skirt or worn over a floral skirt/dress.  It’s a punch of color that is sure to get you noticed.

Lined Navy Blazer (Forever 21, $27)

Everyone needs a basic navy blazer.  You can wear it with white, light grey, khaki and just about any color that you can come up with.  I like to wear my navy blazer belted over sheath dresses when I start to run out of outfit ideas in the middle of the session.

Zipped Rosettes Jacket (Anthropologie, $98)

Add a little something extra to your flirty summer skirts and dresses with this zipper trimmed jacket.  The cap sleeve is perfect for those warm summer days when long sleeves are just out of the question.

Pindot Blazer (White House, Black Market, $90)

Need a basic, dark jacket for Spring?  While lighter is better, the feminine details on this jacket make it a cut above your average dark blazer.

Aren’t you worried that with a navy blazer interns could be mistaken for pages? I guess pages are held in more esteem so it wouldn’t be terrible, but I’m sure some interns would be offended.

  2. Belle says:

Not really. I wear navy all the time and no one mistakes me for a page. I think they only run that risk if they wear the jacket with a white blouse and charcoal grey pants/skirt. But even then, I don’t think it’s very likely since they won’t be wearing a name tag.

  3. Elle says:

Thanks for doing intern-style posts! Looking forward to what’s to come.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
