Do I wish I was wearing a sweatsuit? Yes. Would this all be simpler in soft pants? Without question.

Also, everyone always asks if I wash my Varley pieces. I cold wash in a mesh bag. Then, I put them in the dryer on air fluff.

Call me reckless, but I wash my varleys inside out with the rest of my laundry in cold and air dry if I remember (not often) and they’re doing just fine. No shrinking, no pills, good color retention. Several years in on most pieces. YMMV. I don’t have the mental decision margins to worry about timing my laundry or parsing it into mesh bags. My whites are dingy in general (think Tees and tanks) – maybe I should rethink methods for them. But definitely not necessary for my even my light Varleys.
