The Find: 100% Cotton Sweaters

Dec 3, 2025

Several years ago, I started to get a rash on my neck when I wore wool blends. Then, the rash started forming on my wrists. Pretty soon, I found myself avoiding wool sweaters almost entirely.

Finding cotton sweaters is difficult. Very few retailers make anything in 100% cotton anymore. But Boden still does.

Originally released in 1995, Boden is reviving its heritage Lucy Knit. Made from 100% cotton, this striped of-the-moment sweater comes in both an oversized fit and a more fitted cut. There is also a chunky knit cardigan in your choice of solid or striped — the Lucy Cardigan.

Sweaters still make great gifts for a friend, a sister, an older relative, etc. This Boden sweater is an awesome choice. J.Crew also has a chic rolled-neck style that is 100% cotton and offers a slightly wider size range. For an expanded size range, Universal Standard has a striped sweater in 100% cotton that is worth a look.

LL Bean makes a great cotton sweater too!

Gap Factory (and I think regular Gap as well) also has some good 100% cotton sweaters this year! Appreciate these recs as well — I can’t wear wool anymore either 🙁

I have the same issue: can’t handle wool anymore, even a blend. I purchased the J. Crew rollneck you linked to and it’s great, please note it runs really big, I needed to size down. Another brand I just learned about is Pink Pineapple, they offer many cotton sweaters: https://pinkpineappleshop.com/collections/women-cotton-sweaters
I bought one in the ‘campus’ style and really like the cut and weight.

I really like the Quince 100% cotton sweaters, I have a couple of them. I live in the south and it gets cold but not frigid and also just up against my skin cotton is most comfortable.

J.Crew Factory has some all cotton sweaters. The Teddie sweaters come in some nice colors and are thin enough to wear under blazers.
