The Range: Pants That Don’t Hurt

Oct 23, 2025

I can’t wear leggings anymore. And neither should you.

Yes, they’re still fine at home or for a workout. But it’s time to retire them from any activity that doesn’t involve couch rotting or breaking a sweat.

Why? Because you’re a grown woman, and you deserve better.

We gave up waistbands that pinched and seams that poked during a very dark time, when the world was literally living through a plague. It’s time to wear real pants again. But that doesn’t mean they have to hurt.

I’ve tried on so many pants over the past year trying to “get dressed” for WFH without leggings, and here are three that love me back.

I went to Nordstrom to buy a lipstick. I saw these Paige wide leg jeans on the mannequin, and I had to try them on.

My rear view looked so good in these jeans, I almost felt hot again. Which for the Mom of a toddler, who sits at a desk all day, was a big deal. And the stretch…it’s like the old stretch, the early 2000s stretch. It doesn’t pinch or bind, it just moves with you. And even after a whole day of wear, it won’t be “stretched out” to the point that you have to hike up your jeans every five minutes like a plumber.

I love them so much, that even when I saw the price tag, I still thought they were worth it. Though I do plan to be buried in them.

I needed a black pant for casual wear, and I didn’t want to deal with wrinkles because I want to be able to wear them more than once without ironing them.  This seems like a very specific need, but isn’t it nice to not pick up a once-worn, still clean clothing item and just be able to put it on again as you rushing to put on a decent outfit for school drop off?

Regardless, I decided on these corduroy pants from Spanx in a straight leg style.  The corduroy is fine enough and soft enough that you won’t give yourself a friction burn if you have to run for the train.  They also look as good with a blazer and blouse as they do with a sweater.  And, most importantly, I can wear them on a two hour plane ride, walk to the Uber, go to the meetings, get back on the plane and fly home without feeling like a prisoner in my clothes.

They come in petite and tall and the sizing goes up to 3x.

These Faherty pants have been on the blog three times, and it will be 15 more times if my thighs have their way. Because it has been a long time since I could make a five-hour drive in a pair of pants and not get seam indentations in my skin. These are so comfortable, that I am pretty sure I could hike in them

The pants are literally selling out everywhere. Evereve has some smaller sizes left. The Faherty website has some colors left, but some sizes say 7 or fewer remain in stock. The Rack also has a few colors of the terry stretch pants in different styles and colors.

Literally cannot imagine putting on jeans (or anything with a waistband) to wfh, but do you! I’m going to stay in my joggers because plague or no, the world is still a dumpster fire.

Those Paige jeans are my favorite! I rented a pair from Nuuly after a friend raved about hers, and they were just perfect. I couldn’t stomach even the discounted price, though, so I hunted down a secondhand pair. I wear them so much that I now have another pair on the way in a different wash.

Love the Paige Anessa enough to have them in dark blue, brown, and ivory.

Ordered the Quince dupes for the Faherty pants – very cute!

Haha I just doubled down on thermo leggings in fun pleather finishes and colours for the cold season to wear with long shirts and sweaters because I need comfort and lightness walking my kids to and from school and wfh on those cold dreary days.

I tried the Faherty pants and while yes, they are super stretchy, it’s unfortunately tightest right where I need the most accommodation, in the waistband. (I’ve got average thighs, above average booty, below average hipbone width, and way above average waist size.) And I also sit all day for work, so I really need the waistband to be comfortable.

These days I just live in Vuori joggers and other nicer-than-usual looking sweats, because the drawstring waist is so heavenly (I don’t like leggings as loungewear or WFH either because they cut in at the waist). For dressier occasions, Vuori has a sleek black wide-leg with a fully elastic waist that can be hidden as long as you don’t tuck your top in, and they recently put out a pinstripe version with a real front waistband (but stretch in the back). I bought those immediately but have yet to actually need to wear them on a trip, lol.
