The first time I read about High Sport pants was in a Substack newsletter. The influencer sang the praises of their kick-flare pants for five paragraphs and three photos, and had me wondering if maybe I needed to give them a try. That is until the last paragraph when she finally mentioned the price: $860.
Then, she mentioned that she owned two pair.
And I died.
This woman had just asked me to spend $860 on a pair of pants like she was asking for the time. Honey, my wedding dress didn’t cost $860 (thanks, Carine’s Aisle). Luckily, it didn’t take long before the powers that be at the Gap decided to recreate the look of the beloved High Sport for 10% of retail price.
I am not a person who’s always looking for dupes, but when you’re selling me $860 pants with a straight a face, you get what you get.

These Gap kick flare pants come in several colors. They’re also available in tall, petite, and run to XXL. The ponte fabric is soft and washes well, which is always nice.
Beyond that, the regular inseam is ankle bone length on me (31.5 in). I bought a tall pair to wear with short heels (33 in) as well.
For me, thepants are as comfortable as leggings. I like to wear the ankle length ones with simple tops when I need to leave the house but don’t want to sit at work all day in a pair of jeans.

Hi Abra – What types of tops to you tend to wear with these pants? I’ve been really struggling with styling pants that don’t have belt loops or a fly (but that look fairly polished otherwise, like these).
Which size did you buy? Medium?
I’d love a post about proportion and styling with cropped, flared pants – like, what do you think about when deciding what type of shoes or top to wear with these?
– signed, the skinny jeans and point toed flats girlies, kicking and screaming our way into New Jeans Eras.

As someone who has been wearing cropped slightly flared pants & jeans for years I LAUGHED so hard at the High Sport price point – and the substack influencers who pushed them. 700 dollars in the middle of rampant inflation.
That said the shape is super flattering if like me you like eating pizza occasionally
Thanks for the recommendation! I’d also be interested to hear if you or any readers has tried the Anthropologie Margot pants (which look similar), or the Colette cropped pants (which are similar length, but wide-leg instead of kick flare).
I have a pair of the Colette cropped in olive green and in dark denim. I love them – super flattering, good stretch but don’t stretch out, and have accommodated me me through some weight change. I am 5’3 and have the denim in petite and a regular length in the olive (needed these hemmed) – I prefer the waist of the regular over the petite. The one thing I don’t like about the olive pair is that the fabric can look sort of wrinkly, so they’re definitely a more casual option.
Wow, thanks for the in-depth feedback! Extremely helpful.
