Every couple of years, I buy a new striped button up. I wear it as a pool cover up. I wear it with jeans and shorts. It’s an easy basic. But even I need some ideas for how to wear it more often. So here are three outfits for the office, whether it be casual or more dressy.

The Shirt // This striped shirt is from Everlane. LL Bean also has a wonderful option (also in petite and plus). Ralph Lauren has a the higher end option. If you’ve never purchased anything from the brand, several of my favorite shirts are from there. I also like their bags and leather goods.
Casual Outfit // This is an easy casual work or weekend outfit; you may own the pieces already. The cardigan looks great when worn, or when thrown over the shoulder. (Here is the chicest way to wear it over the shoulder.) I chose this cardigan from Everlane because I love the weave. It’s also a boxier, more modern cut. (I tend to size down when I wear this style.) Looking for something more fitted? I think Abercrombie has the nicest one.
For the jeans, I chose a softer, light wash for a casual look. These J.Crew Factory jeans are a knock-off of my Paige jeans. They come in petite and tall, and give the same look for a fraction of the price.
To finish the look, I am really loving colored, suede sneakers right now. These ones are from Sam Edelman and come in a not-too-summery yellow shade. Puma has a great lavender and peach pair. I own these Dolce Vita sneakers in two colors.
Lastly, I absolutely adore this bag from Madewell. The hardware is phenomenal. And don’t miss these slightly chunky hoops from Amazon for less than $20.
Business Outfit // This is a throwback to past years of Capitol Hill Style. For this outfit, we have a simple blouse paired with this great, fitted pencil skirt. I chose this skirt from La Chiara Boni. For a less spendy version, don’t miss this ponte skirt from Tommy Hilfiger from under-$50.
I toyed with the idea of a red heel. It would be a welcome pop of color. But I like the look of these softer blue pumps from Bibi Lou for a more sophisticated option.
For accessories, I added this absolutely phenomenal cuff from COS. Run, don’t walk to get this one because it will sell out. And if you’re wearing shades of blue, don’t forget your pop of buildable-lip color with this balm from Kylie.
Fun Outfit // Why not wear a hot pink suit? This suit from Boden (pants and blazer) brings bright color to the office. I would not wear this at my firm, except on a day when I had no meetings, but I would absolutely wear it.
I like it with the striped blouse. I would also wear it with a solid, pale blue blouse. Or really go for it, and choose a red blouse. Want a bridge between the bold and the soft? Lavender.
For the shoes, I decided pink was the way to go. You could also choose a neutral or a grey, but for me, in for a penny, in for a pound. So I picked these slingbacks from Boden that have an airy look to them.
Since I usually choose yellow-metal jewelry, I decided to switch it up a bit and go with these silver Ettika studs. A little chunky, a little chic.
For styling, keep the makeup here subtle. Natural. This tutorial from Lisa Eldridge is one of my favorites for simple makeup.

These options are all so fun! Are the Edelman’s comfortable? I’ve been searching for low-profile gum sole shoes as the white soles get dingy and never seem to get clean again. That yellow color is cheery and not too bright. Nothing better than a classic striped shirt to serve so many purposes in your wardrobe. Thank you!
These are great! Any recommendations for styling the cropped jeans/oversized sweater look for a long torso/short legs?
I also have a long torso and shorter legs. I think a longer cardigan mostly solves the issue.
Styling question – in the casual outfit, would you tuck in the shirt? Tie it? Untucked? I always seem to have too much shirttail to tuck in neatly.
I tuck.
Love these types of posts! So fun & helpful as I’m trying to consume less, but still want to look fabulously stylish. Thanks!
I bought that Everlane striped shirt and it is fantastic. Not see-through and the only major wrinkles I get are from tucking it in.
