My Favorite Easy Casual Office Look

Jan 29, 2025

Okay, let’s say you don’t work fully remote but your office could be best described as casual with a hint of business. You want to look polished and project a bit of office chic, but a blazer is strictly off limits. And you can’t look out of place picking up kids from school or running errands after work. This is the outfit for you.

I loved this look from Pinterest (a reader pointed out the original from Instagram) because it looked so breezy and effortless. Like she just threw it on and walked out the door. But even with that effortless vibe, it still felt casually professional. Let’s recreate it.

The Sweater Jacket. A soft topper like a sweater jacket gives you that layered, styled look without the business-forward feel of a real blazer. You may already have one of these in your closet, but if you don’t and you’re petite this dark camel one from J.Crew Factory is a great option. If you’re misses size, LOFT also has a nice one in stock.

Personally, I like my soft blazers hip length these days. That’s why this textured Boden sweater would be my #1 choice for this look.

The Button Down // A light blue poplin button down is one of the most worn pieces in my wardrobe. It always looks fresh, yet classic. This one from LL Bean is one of my favorites. I know LL isn’t thought of as one of the “cool” brands, but this shirt is well made, well priced and irons up beautifully. It also comes in petite and plus.

If a cotton button down feels too stiff for you, this Chambray button down from J.Crew is one of my most worn pieces. To substitute it into this outfit, you’d need to choose a darker jean on bottom.

The Jeans // Not the relaxed wide legs I put up yesterday, but no less comfortable, are these Gap 90s Straight Jeans. The great thing about them is that if you like a slimmer leg, you get that look, but they still have a relaxed vibe. Plus, many of the washes are on sale for <$50 right now, so they’re a total steal.

If you’re looking for a wider range of sizes, these mid-rise boyfriend jeans from Old Navy are worth a look. And if you’re the kind of woman who likes to invest in their jeans, the Serena straight leg jeans from Paige keep selling out.

The Sneakers // For this look, I went with a lower profile sneaker. The NBs from yesterday are my favorite, but in the office, I want something more sleek. Yes, the Adidas and Pumas pairs are very popular, but the It Girl on her way down the block is the Alohas Sneaker. This cobalt color is bright, but still approachable.

Looking for something in the $100 range? These Gola sneakers are also very hot right now. I keep trying to snap up the mustard color, and I can’t find it in my size.

The Bag // The straw Chloe Woody bag is a summer classic, but I am not ready for raffia yet. That being said, I love the way the lighter bag balances the look. So instead of straw, let’s try canvas. This Veronica Beard Goodies Bag has a leather accents so it still reads “real purse,” and the canvas lightens it up. This is a hot bag that can carry you straight through summer.

The Accessories // Let’s close this look out with my favorite Quay Aviators with tortoise accents. And add in a simple, beaded stack bracelet for some zhujj. Both of these pieces give cool, but effortless vibes.

The Styling // Hair up with this look will take it to a librarian homage real fast. I recommend wearing it down, and frankly, seeing the full waves on the inspo-photo makes me wish I had the 6-hours per month to give up for hair extensions, but I simply don’t have the time.

For the makeup, you definitely need a lipstick here. Red is trying too hard unless it’s sheer. Berry same thing. I would go for a nude lip.
