The Range: Five Going Out Tops

What does a “going out” top look like at 42? How does a woman whose root cover-up spray is her new favorite accessory dress to go out on the town for an event or a date? Hell, if I know.

So when I spot a top that I think can do the job, I like to share with the class.

This sweater with a fun sweetheart neckline and a fitted shape is a nice option for a dinner out. It’s from Naadam, which makes high quality cashmere goods. Because it’s at The Outnet, it’s under-$100. Pair it with chocolate brown separates.

This Maje sequin top, also from The Outnet, gives you more sparkle. The deep-v, the high hip fit and the slight balloon sleeve are nice details. Pair it with black pants or wear it with a sleek black blazer and your favorite jeans.

This Marcella top is one of my favorite pieces in my current wardrobe. I bought it because I wanted a top to wear to a holiday party, and I loved it so much that I might also buy it in white. Sizes run 0-20. I sized up because I’m between sizes and wanted it a little less fitted.

Brown is the season’s hottest color and this plisse top gives you a fantastic look for going out. I think this would be so much fun with a leather skirt.

This chartreuse color is a really interesting option for fall and holiday. It looks great with denim or gray. I also love it with a black skirt and black earrings for holiday. Cinq a Sept is a wonderful brand, but it tends to run a little small.
