Office Attire: How to Wear Yellow in Fall

Sep 9, 2024

When you think of fall colors, you might think of dark hues like burgundy, emerald, and cocoa. But deep and golden yellows are also a fall color. There are also a great transition color for summer-to-fall outfits. So here’s how to wear yellow to a “real” office this fall.

This look found on Pinterest has all of the classic office pieces — a wide leg trouser, a sleek blazer, a simple pump — but the pop of color make this outfit anything but basic.  We often wear color on top, but wearing it on the bottom is a chic and simple way to bring color into your work wardrobe.  Let’s deconstruct the look.

Blazer // J.Crew’s Parke Blazer // Ivory is a great winter and fall neutral.  It’s not as stark or precious as white, but it lightens a look with ease.  This blazer has a sleek one-button look.  If you prefer two buttons,  Reiss has a great option.  The blazer on my wishlist right now is this Favorite Daughter look; the tailoring and the texture are perfect.

Need more affordable options?  This Ann Taylor blazer is on deep discount.  I also found this <$50 H&M option.  Have trouble keeping light colors clean?  These Stain Rescue wipes are my favorite.

Pants // Akris Punto Marla Flare // Finding mustard-hued pants was a challenge.  This Akris Punto pair hits all the right notes and is (thankfully) on sale.  The stretchy panel in the rear makes them a great choice if your weight fluctuates during the colder weather.

Ann Taylor has an ankle length pair that fall more on the casual side.  AT also has this wide leg palazzo style pair that would be perfect for WFH.  Need a casual pair? These LOFT pants would look great with a chambray shirt.

Blouse // Open Edit Relaxed Button Down // If you like a slouchy button down that doesn’t fit too close to the body, this is the shirt for you.  I love the relaxed look with a fitted blazer, the contrast makes the whole look appear effortlessly cool.  Plus, who doesn’t love a shirt that costs less than $60?  Plus-size?  Quince has a silky button down that’s perfect for work.

Shoes // Ann Taylor Azra Suede Pumps // Not sure how to wear light tan heels in the fall?  Buy a pair in suede, fall 2024’s hottest texture.  This pair from Ann Taylor is reasonably comfortable for regular wear.  If you need to protect the shoes from the elements, don’t miss this protecting spray.  Prefer flats?  M. Gemi’s Gia loafers are a classic you’ll be wearing 10 years from now.

Bag // Strathberry Midi Lana Bucket // A bucket tote is a great hybrid between a tote bag and a crossbody.  It feels relaxed and easy, but also looks sleek and polished.  This one from Strathberry is a bit spendy, but you get so much for your money.  It’s on my Christmas wishlist.  For something in the mid-price range, I like this Everlane Studio bag.

Accessories // The inspiration photo has a thick, chunky chain collar as the necklace.  This is a bit heavy for me, but it certainly makes a chic statement.  Nordstrom brings us this nested round link collar necklace, which gives a similar feel in a more subtle vibe.  You could also try a simple, modern collar necklace, which also looks great with evening looks.

I wanted a lighter sunglasses look, but not the ivory shades in the photo.  This Sojos pair in mocha is a nice bridge between brown and white.  Plus, they’re just $15.

Finally, even if you like the hue of your own lips, adding a little color can accentuate them without overwhelming your natural look.  My lips are close to this Rosewood color from Gucci, so the lipstick (which is very moisturizing and easy to wear) just finishes my makeup with a little kiss of color.
