Ask Me Anything: April 2024

Apr 30, 2024

Every month, I open up a channel on my Instagram for readers to ask me anything. Anything. I grab the most interesting, most useful questions and answer them here. Let’s get started.

What are three things you’re focusing on right now?

  1. Moving my body more so I can get into better shape.
  2. Having a good summer with Avery and Sloane.
  3. Becoming a better attorney.

What is an unexpected item of clothing that you’re planning to buy for summer?

Orange pants.  I’m trying to decide between these relaxed pants from Boden and these crepe pants from Ann Taylor.   I’m planning to wear them with a light blue button up shirt or a white inset lace top.

What feature of your kid surprised you? (Example, I never thought mine would be a lefty.)

Sloane hates to be the center of attention.  If she’s doing something really great, you cannot celebrate and focus on her or she will meltdown.  She said “love you” to her cousin a few weeks ago and her Aunt and I started cheering and telling her how great it was.  She was traumatized, immediately in tears.  She will probably never say “I love you” again.

I will live at the pool this summer supervising my kids, can you suggest a few stylish pool cover-ups?

Last summer, crochet cover ups were popular and I think they will be again.  This one from Mango is stunning.  For a more affordable option, try this one from Beach Riot.  This smocked dress is another great cover up that goes from the pool to lunch very easily.

For my summer pool needs, I bought this rainbow striped caftan from Emerson Frye.  It’s a splurgier piece, but I purchased another EF caftan three summers ago and wore it constantly, so it’s worth it to me.  This <$75 Kate caftan also caught my eye.

What’s the best thing you’ve watched/read/listened to recently?

Watched. The Gentlemen on Netflix — part comedy, part heist movie, great costume department — takes two-three episodes to really get into it.

Listened. Son of a Hitman by Spotify Studios — A famous acting family, a murder from the 1980s, and a patriarch like no other, all tangled up with the Mob, the Kennedy assassination and more.

Read. Choosing the Bear — Steph McNeal explains the origin of the phrase and what it says about relationships between men and women.

My gramma asked us to spend only $35 on her Mother’s Day gift. She’s 82 and spry. Gift ideas?

What about a personalized key chain?  Etsy offers this fun ribbon-style leather keychain that you can emboss with her name or another meaningful word.  They also have this leather keychain that lets you add a photo.  Both are nice options.

What’s your current favorite snack?

I steal these Yoggies from Sloane.  They’re a yogurt covered fruit snack and they’re too delicious.  They remind me of the Fruit Swirl Bars that I was obsessed with in the 1980s.

What keeps you up nights?

What doesn’t?  I have a toddler whose needs are ever changing. It’s an election year.  I am building a new career in a new industry.  Do I want Botox?  I didn’t put any money in my retirement for two years.  Avery’s health is up and down.  Where should we travel this summer? SCOTUS’s end of term calendar is 🤯.  Trying to make a list of errands at 3:00AM.  Why is Kyle breathing so loud?

Seriously, is anyone sleeping these days?

What is that pink cocktail in the photo? Looks so cute

I was just like Sloane as a kid (and kind of still am)! I didn’t want any singing happy birthday to me, taking pictures of me, etc. Attention made me so uncomfortable. It probably made my parents sad and frustrated, but that’s just how I felt and it really had nothing to do with them. Keep it up, you are doing a great job 🙂
