Five Styles I’m Shopping for Spring

Mar 13, 2024

The sun stayed up last night until after 6:00PM. It was glorious. And, of course, the sunshine has me thinking about what pieces I’d like to add to my wardrobe this spring. Here are a few that I’m pondering.

Peplum Tops // If there is a peplum top from 2013 hiding in your closet, you are in luck, because this style has come back. This Sea top with embroidered details is a fantastic look. For something a bit more affordable, I adore this summery, bohemian top from a.n.a.

If you prefer a more modern style, this striped Misook top is for you. For a work top, I like this Dennis Basso option in a deep emerald green (also in plus). Need a going out top? This sequin version in pale silver is a stunner.

Charm Hoops // I love a dangly earring, but after losing a few earrings, I stopped wearing them. These charm hoops are the perfect substitute. You get the security of a hoop with the shimmy-shake of a drop. This pair from Missoma has a cool, amulet design. For something slightly dressier, I love these pearl drops from Anthropologie. For something under-$50, I like these two-tone hoops from Macy’s.

Sweater Jackets // This spring, my wardrobe will be heavily reliant on t-shirts worn under sweater jackets. I need to look professional but be comfortable, with a full range of movement. Luckily, this style, in all of its Jackie Kennedy glory, is everywhere this season.

This Alex Mill jacket is absolutely lovely, however, I’m shopping in a slightly lower price point. For me, this Boden style is the go-to. I also love that it comes in a longer style, because I don’t always want a cropped look. For an affordable option, LOFT has some really wonderful looks in lovely spring colors. For a wider size range, this Talbot’s sweater comes in misses, plus, petite, and plus petite.

Bucket Bags // I spotted this Veronica Beard Goodie Bag on Allison Bornstein’s Instagram, and now it is the number one item on my wishlist. I rarely carry a purse these days, but for this gorgeousness, I will make an exception. The natural with black is a lighter way to wear black in warm weather months. It also comes in a hazelnut-brown trim and natural, which is lovely too.

It was tough to find a similar style for less. This IRL drawstring bucket is probably the closest. I also located this Quince bag in all leather.

Wide Leg Jeans // Last, but not least, my search for wide leg jeans continues. These Sashas from Paige are amazing. I’m also considering these Spanx jeans (also in plus). I also really like these cropped twill pants from Spanx — the smoke color is amazing. For something under-$100, I thought Land’s End had the best pair of all the options.

So what are you hunting for for spring? Tell me everything in the comments.

American Eagle has great wide leg jeans which have stretch and come in multiple lengths and are reasonably priced.

Help me know what shoes/how to style wide leg jeans! I like them in theory, but feel so frumpy whenever I try them on in stores.

I have the Quince bucket bag, and I absolutely love it.

I’d also love some styling tips on the wide legs, especially the more cropped wide legs.

How would/could you style these peplum tops without pairing it with jeans? It’s just too hot for long pants.
I saw a woman in a high-waisted knee-length front-slit washed black denim skirt and it looked cute and sporty and practical for chasing toddlers so I’m hunting for something like that

  6. Emily says:

I tried on the Spanx wide leg jeans in a darker wash at the DCA store and the pockets were laughably small on my medium sized behind. Like, baby pockets…maybe exacerbated by the wide leg? They are really cute otherwise!

  7. Dee says:

Which jeans are the ones pictured? None of the links lead to that pair. TY

The Anthropologie link to the Sasha jeans is the right one. I just pulled this picture from a Nordstrom listing from the same jeans that were sold out.

  8. Mandi says:

Can you please do a post on styling a sweater jacket? What kind of blouses or shirt should k wear underneath? Thanks!

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
