Ask the Edit: Favorite Office Supplies

Feb 2, 2024

When you work in an office, nothing causes more angst than a person who “steals” the good office supplies.  Everyone has their favorite pen, notebook, highlighter, etc. and taking them is punishable by death.  But when you work from home, you get the good stuff all to yourself.

From Instagram DMs:

What’s your favorite office product (pen, post-it, etc.)?

Oh, I love office supplies. I’m moving into a new office soon, and I can’t wait to buy all of the things for it. Here are my top picks:

Pen // Le Pen, all colors.

To-Do Lists // Russell + Hazel Notepads. Tops makes a similar version for less. Both help you focus your to do list so it doesn’t become a jumble.

Legal Pads // I use these 11 x 9.5″ ones. The size fits perfectly next to a laptop, so it takes up less space on the desk. I also buy small ones for around the house (grocery lists, etc.).

Highlighters // It’s so critical to find one that doesn’t smear. If you struggle with this issue, let me introduce you to the wonderful world of Bible highlighters. They’re designed to never smear, never bleed and they come in way more colors.

Post-Its // I use reusable, dry erase sticky notes on bathroom mirrors and the fridge to remember critical things like “Get Avery’s Insulin” or “Painter Coming 2/6.” They’re better than the paper ones.

Do you have a favorite office product? Drop it in the comments.

I love this calendar / to do list – I’m on my fourth or fifth. You can usually get them from PaperSource at the beginning of the year. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/2023-24-chicago-ave-17-month-weekly-desk-pad-with-grommets-orange-circle-studio/1142651706?ean=0846307094249

Very interested to try these highlighters

Professional facilitator/trainer here, and I sometimes think my clients love me more for these giant post-its than for my skill. They’re not wrong to steal them at every opportunity — they’re incredibly useful. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000J05GN2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I’ve been using the same pen since college. I order them in bulk and keep them everywhere. I still love pen to paper and the grip and ink flow can’t be beat!

I am now also obsessed with Chez Gagne, thanks to Abra, so I own their GSD notebook for my daily to-do’s. https://www.chezgagne.com/products/get-shit-done-bright-journal though if I transition to a “real” office I’ll probably get something a LITTLE less cheeky.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
