Begin/Again: The Sleepwear Redux

Jan 18, 2024

Are you wearing a ratty t-shirt and sweatpants to bed?  My darling, you deserve better.  From every day pajamas to date night pajamas, it’s time to upgrade your sleepwear wardrobe. Here are some of my favorites.

Jersey Pajamas // My best friend changed my outlook on pajamas. She believes that you deserve sleepwear that makes getting ready for bed feel as good as sleeping should.  And after a long, hard day, all I want is a soft jersey pajama.

Nordstrom’s Moonlight Pajamas are my number one pick.  They come in eleven colors; I love this new black-and-white leopard print and I picked up this year’s Valentine’s Day heart print as well.  This style also comes in plus-size.

Prefer a style that doesn’t button up?  I recently bought the Eco Jogger pajamas, which are also fantastic but selling out quickly.

Like twinning with your kids or friends?  Hannah Anderson’s pajamas are very well made and comfortable.  I bought family pajamas for Christmas and was really impressed by the quality.

If $75 is too rich for a pair of pajamas, Nordstrom Rack sells a similar style for half the price.  The material isn’t quite as thick, but they’re a very comfortable pajama.  The Rack is a great place to shop for affordable pajamas.  I like these long sleeve Blis pajamas in bold colors, also in plus.

Silk Pajamas // In addition to jersey styles, washable silk styles are a great option.  Quince has this silk short sleeve top paired with these vented silk pants.  They also offer sleeveless, halter style and long sleeve styles so you can mix and match,

To recreate that silk pajama look for a night on the town, I love this printed COS set.  I’m not sure you’ll see me headed to brunch in my pajamas, but these ladies sure make it look glam.

Nightgowns // When you want a nightgown option (for a romantic trip or just because you love pretty things), this Honeydew Intimates chemise is both pretty and comfortable.  If you like this style, the jersey chemise has definitely caught on this year, and Nordstrom offers dozens of options.

Prefer the look of a sleep shirt?  Soma Intimates sells soft, well-made options that don’t look like your Nana would wear them.  I also like this classic, button front option from Target (also in plus size).

I decided to redo my pj wardrobe at the beginning of the year to find a new “me” post divorce. I kept my tried and true Tommy John joggers, but bought some new Soma sleep tees that I ADORE. I also bought two new sweatshirts from Homage to replace my old ones that were exclusively repping my ex’s college team. Nothing about my items are fancy, but they are new and just different enough to make me feel cute while still comfy!

Hanna Andersson makes amazing quality children’s clothes, and the adult pajamas are wonderful as well!

  3. Tiffany says:

I love the Midnight pajamas and am slowly replacing my old ones with those. I prefer short and short sleeves most of the year for sleeping, but like the long ones for lounging.

I’m curious about the quince pjs and will give them a try!

  4. Allison says:

I have an Eberjey set that I love, but shockingly the pajamas I got as a bridesmaid gift are even better! The MOH ordered them from Birdie Grey, where most of us got our dresses, so they matched the wedding colors. The material is soft but not flimsy, the shorts have pockets, and the drawstring is a satin ribbon that just feels special and pretty.

  5. Lindy says:

I realize this is a dummy question as I am *this* many years old, but are you sleeping in these PJs? or are these the “robe” for what you actually sleep in (say, undies and a tank?). The chemise I get for special nights or whatever.

I’m surprised JJWinks didn’t make an appearance here.

bonus controversial question: do PJs get washed every time they are slept in? Or since they’re (potentially) a topper, maybe not?

  6. Zerlyn says:

I love my Boden pajamas bottoms, especially the brushed cotton version. They have such fun prints and so soft. Been wearing them for almost 10 years now, replacing them with other prints as they aged.
On my tops, they are more boring, just comfy tees, nothing to shout about.
Sometimes, what I’ll do when I am on a trip, is to lookout for cute, fun, comfy destination pajama tops. That’s how I got a Yellowstone NP (the park, not the show) long top sleepwear. It remind me of the fun time when we were there.

  7. Rachel says:

Lake pajamas on sale are my go to. I try to stick with cotton styles. SO COMFY. They are worth the hype when ON SALE.

  8. Kate says:

I absolutely adore my Tommy John second skin tees and pants! For travel I have a WoolX set, since merino can go a bit longer without washing.

Shoe Week: One Last Summer Shoe

It’s been a fun week talking about shoes. A former co-worker texted me yesterday and asked what shoe I would buy, if I were only going to buy one shoe for summer. And, of course, I told her that I have two suggestions. Her response: “Typical.”

Shoe Week: A High Heel Alternative

Next month, I’m spending a week in Salt Lake for work. My ability to wear high heels went out with the pandemic, so what am I putting on my feet? These.
