Best Purchases of 2023: The Boots

Dec 21, 2023

During the Legislative Session, I climb the stairs thousands of times.  It’s the only cardio I get from January thru May in odd numbered years.  I also eat a shocking number of donuts during those months, so I need footwear that can do the stairs without causing me pain.

I loved these boots so much, depended on them so much, that by the end of the session, I had purged every pair of pants that couldn’t be worn with them.

The Tamera Waterproof Boot is the perfect thing for winter weather.  If you commute, climb stairs, give Capitol tours, or just need a boot that’s kind to your feet, this is it.  The front sole cushions your steps and provides traction on slick surfaces.  The block heel gives height without the pain.  And the almond toe looks great peeking out from under a sleek trouser.

These boots sell out every winter.  Zappos and Amazon are the only places left with the leather version in stock.  So if you like them, grab them soon-ish.  They’re on sale at both places.

I bought these boots based on you previously recommending them and will echo that they are indeed comfortable and have been a fantastic addition to my closet.

These look amazing! Can you provide some styling ideas? Especially for casual wear. My mind instantly goes to skinny jeans, and I’m trying to expand beyond that.

  3. Rebecca T Barber says:

Yes Yes a thousand times Yes. I bought these last fall (2022) for work and they have become my go-to. I can walk for miles in them, yet they have enough of a heel to look professional. The minimal lug sole gives me traction, and the fact that they are waterproof makes them perfect for Michigan winters. I am strongly considering buying another pair just to have for when these start to show more wear than I can deal with.

I ordered these and did not find them comfortable (but glad others did!). If that’s you too, I suggest Naot. Not quite as stylish but their boots are very comfortable.

The Beauty Edit: Neck Creams

Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]
