It’s time for another episode of “Things I Bought and (Maybe, Possibly) Liked (Or Didn’t).”  As the AmEx turns, these are the stories of my purchases. Let’s chat.

Stuff for Sloane // Now that Sloane is a little bigger, I’ve had to say goodbye to my beloved two-way-zipper onesies.  Don’t get me wrong, I would have kept dressing her in them until she was 15, but most brands only size them up to 9-mos.  *tear*

So we’ve moved on to these fantastic Parade two-way-zipper rompers.  The material is so thick and soft.  The zippers are tough, never sticky.  Their printed rompers are my favorite; I snapped up these little pears in a great fall color.  The brand also makes great pajamas and sleepsacs for older kids.

Sloane has transitioned to feeding herself and we’re trying to encourage independence.  We grabbed this Busy Bee’s mat, which is also great for keeping toys off the floor in a restaurant.  Also, this OllaBaby cup comes with a straw, transitioning from a baby cup, to a sipper, to a cup as your child develops new skills.

The Jeans // I desperately needed some new jeans.  These light wash Paige Leenah ankle jeans caught my eye, and they’re fab.  A little trendy, but not over the top.  I like them so much, I will probably also buy the darker wash.  And I found the Leenah style in full length on the Paige website, so I’m thinking about this black pair for winter.

The Ring // This Monica Vinader ring is stalking me.  It’s on my Instagram.  All of my Google Ads.  Last Monday, it turned up in another influencer’s newsletter in my inbox.  That was it.  UNCLE.  The universe demanded I buy it.  The universe knows me so well.  The bracelet is also pretty fab (also in white metal).

The Shelf Items // I’m trying to style a set of shelves without buying pieces from Target.  As those of you who also live in Suburbia understand, everyone buys the same 10 pieces from Target this time of year.  Instead, I’ve found really cute things at H&M.  Their small decorative pieces are a great way to add a little something to a shelf, mantle, or coffee table.  These fluted glass candle holders would look great on a holiday table.

The Baseball Cap // Last month, I lost the baseball cap I’ve been wearing for four years.  Simple, black with no writing on it, it was the best $12 I’ve ever spent.  For a replacement, I bought this Favorite Daughter cap from, of course, Favorite Daughter.  It’s funny because I’m my parents only daughter, otherwise it might be a little mean.

***

Here are a few other items that I purchased recently that didn’t make the graphic.

The Concealer // Everyone was raving about this Haus Labs concealer.  And since I’m always desperate for more under-eye coverage, I snapped it up immediately, only to be super disappointed.  The color match was good, but the coverage was middling and it always looked glossy, which just drew more attention to the darkness I was trying to minimize.  Pass.

The Stripe Tee // I bought this Veronica Beard striped, baseball tee at the recent Shopbop sale.  I love this thing.  I have to stop myself from wearing it too much.  I may also pick it up in black.

The Knock Off Bag // For about a year, I put the Naghedi St. Barths tote in my cart and didn’t pull the trigger.  When several influencers shared the more affordable Amazon copy, I bought it.  My plan was to try it out and decide if the bigger bag could become a staple piece for me.  And I love it, but not the drop on the strap.

It makes no sense to own a bag that I can barely swing over my shoulder.  I have a baby and a laptop to haul, I can’t hang it from my elbow without cutting off circulation to my wrist.  So I’m considering their Nomad Hobo instead.  Same look, but with a strap.

The Layering Tee // This Caslon tee looks great with jeans, leggings, or under a blazer for a business casual day.  I own it in two colors; I hope they make more.  Runs a little boxy, so depending on your body shape you may want to size down.

Awww man, the rompers only have the foldover footies until 12 months! I just got some from Caden Lane in 12-18 months for my just-turned-one year old, but the fabric is so thin I’m worried my dude will get chilly in the winter. Also, we got the Busy Bees mat when my guy was around 7 months, and it was maybe a week before he figured out how to un-suction it and just throw it on the floor. The bungees that came with it have been great though for attaching toys to his high chair and car seat.

I walked into Evereve recently and one of the sales associates made me try on the black Paige Leenah jeans. I thought she was crazy – they looked like wild bell bottoms on the hanger. Turns out they’re great. They pass as black trousers in a casual environment (maybe just in my head). They’re comfy with good stretch but haven’t stretched out yet. I took my smaller size. Favorite thing I’ve purchased for fall – definitely order them.

I really really like the *look* of the Naghedi St. Barths tote, but I will *never ever* buy it. Because I have never ever NOT knocked over any tote bag in my vicinity, spilling its contents everywhere. My friends have learned to carry bags that only Houdini could open when we are out together.

RE: Concealer. I haven’t tried Haus Labs, but recently got the Tower 28 concealer and love it. More coverage than kosas, not as thick as Nars, less matte than Nars, but not glowy. I really have been impressed with the Tower 28 products + the price point is slightly lower than the typical brands at Sephora.

    Re: jeans
I found that AYR jeans are amazing. They have the full range of cuts (including short inseams for the vertically challenged), colors, and just the right amount stretch that they make all the parts (butt, thighs) look good, but they’re not falling off at the end of the day and still manage to be super comfortable.

Re: toddler cups, the Munchkin Cool Cat cup is really, really hard to spill. Definitely worth trying!

Its funny how different skin types adapt to certain products, I have dry skin so I love Haus labs everything, love the concealer. I noticed anything Tarte concealer wise didn’t work for me. Skin types are a funny thing with makeup.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
