Nora Ephron once said, Anything you think is wrong with your body at the age of thirty-five you will be nostalgic for at the age of forty-five.” No truer words have ever been spoken. And as I confront my new, postpartum, post-Legislative Session, post-40 body, I must consider which styles will flatter this new body. Enter the knot-front dress.
This knot-front a-line Matte Jersey Dress from WHBM is amazing (also in petite). The flattering knot front to give it a breezy feel. The black-and-white print is versatile and simple. Add a blazer for the boardroom and a high heel sandal for drinks after the conference meetings.
A twist or knot front dress is a good choice for those of us with a softer middle section, those who like a less fitted style, and those who might be in the early days of pregnancy. For similar styles, this simple black dress and this short-sleeve option are both nice. These polka-dots are a bit more suited to a dinner date. Plus-size? Try this dress from Land’s End.

Can confirm – this dress is great. Have already worn it at a formal corporate luncheon and a wedding rehearsal. It’s very versatile.

There’s discussion on it in the Replenix post.
Bought this and wore it today. It is fantastic, as it is thr perfect length, perfect weight material, fully lined, stretchy, perfect neckline, no potential for wardrobe malfunctions, and very comfortable. But, my 4-year-old told me she loved my dress and that my “costume” looks just like Miss Frizzle. From the Magic School Bus.
I consider that a compliment.
I do as well. Preschooler observations are the absolute best.
I bought this on your rec and am wearing it today. It’s a great dress – flattering, lined, and comfortable. Thanks for the rec!
