The Empties: My Lazy Day Foundation

Apr 13, 2023

For many years, I wore makeup every day.  Whether I was lounging around the house or headed to a formal event, there was a full face of makeup on my punum.  Let’s just say at 40, after a baby, and a global pandemic, there are more (many more) days when I don’t wear makeup.  Here’s what I wear instead.

The Empties is a column dedicated to the products that I re-buy when they run empty, and this color correcting cream is a forever repurchase.  But let’s just say that I love this product so much that I do my best to make sure it never runs empty.

Dr. Jart’s Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment goes on green and then turns to a beige hue.  The cream soothes, calms and moisturizers skin.  It also neutralizes redness and protects skin from sun damage with SPF.

This before-and-after and this before-and-after show you the results on Caucasian and Asian skin.  For darker skin, these Tiger Grass Camo Drops neutralize redness and smooth out skin.

I wear the cream under makeup or as a foundation replacement.  It’s not heavy enough to cover up all imperfections, but honey, it helps.  It’s the perfect product to apply when you’re just running Saturday errands or you’re headed to the gym.  If I’m feeling like I look particularly haggard ( I have a baby, it happens), I wear the Bobbi Brown under eye corrector with it.

If you’ve tried this product and it didn’t work for you, a fellow influencer says amazing things about Erborian’s CC Red Correct.  And if you need a drugstore dupe, try Hero Cosmetics Rescue Balm.

Do you use a brush to apply this? What method have you found that works best?

  2. Betsy says:

I don’t know when you first mentioned this product but I bought it as soon as you did and was an immediate convert. Far and I away the best product I use in either the skin or make up category. I’m an evangelist about it. Can’t recommend it enough.

I also purchased this product after reading about it on this site, and I use it daily! I find that I prefer the consistency of the drops, so if the cream formulation is too thick for anyone else, you might give the camo drops a try.

  3. Anon says:

Unfortunately doesn’t work on any medium to dark skintones – it leaves a grey and ashy cast 🙁

  4. Mitra says:

Makes me think of the L’Oréal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream Anti-Redness which goes on green and blends to beige. It’s $9 but no SPF.

Oh wow. Thanks for sharing, esp the before and after on different color skin!

I turned to this product in 2020 after hearing about it on the Thirtyish facebook group. I wear it the same — it’s my favorite weekend/traveling/dont want to put on makeup but want some coverage look!

For anyone balking at the price, I can just refilled my larger size after a full year, maybe even a year and a half of having it. I first purchased the smaller size and keep the container around so I have a travel size. Love and forever repurchase!

I bought this on your recommendation some time ago (years? hard to believe) and wear it probably 350+ days a year. I’m always surprised how long a jar lasts, but still have 2 in the wings at any time. I hope Dr. Jart never discontinues this product!

  8. HB says:

Thank you for this recommendation! My boyfriend has rosacea and is self-conscious about it at work — it makes him look much younger than he is. I bought the cream on your first recommendation and we tried it out together it was a lightbulb moment for him! He wound up experimenting on his own and now has a back stock of the Hero Balm for himself. Life-changing for him — thank you :).

  9. Jillian says:

Is it just for redness? I hate foundation and have older skin – feels dry even after super moisturizers, darkish circles, just uneven coloring (no acne, little skin damage, not a lot of wrinkles). I just look… tired. Most days I’m writing at home in leggings and fuzzy socks. Last time I bought makeup at Sephora, they pushed me into a thick Clinique liquid (I’d always used mineral foundation), but even mixed with moisturizer, I look freaky pale – not quite Joan Crawford/Mommie Dearest-esque, but not attractive! I’m thinking a non-foundation something to even things out rather than mask is better, but don’t know if this is it?

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
