Skincare: The Mask for Depuffing and Tightening

Jan 18, 2023

I have reached the age when one fun night out can put me down for days.  No amount of sleep, water, green juice or exercise can bring it back.  Such is being fortyish.

So when Grace Atwood posted about a mask that tightens, depuffs, and brightens in 10-minutes, I bought it instantly.  My debit card had friction burns I moved so fast.  But was it worth the hype?

Full disclosure, I was so sleep deprived the first time I used this product that I thought it was a moisturizer, and only realized that I needed to rinse it off when I skimmed the instructions 15-minutes later.  I have a four-month old and an aging Mini-Schnauzer who needs to go outside three times nightly, so exhausted is my vibe.  But I corrected this deficiency before I tested the mask for real.

Clarins V-Facial Intensive Wrap is billed as a product to refine facial contours, combat puffiness, and promote even skintone.  You apply a thick layer to the lower part of the face, avoiding the eye area.  Then, you perform Clarins Manual Auto-Lifting Method to augment the impact of the mask.  Leave the mask on 10-minutes and then, rinse with cold water.  (I also chug a huge water while I wear it, because why not?)

The second time I used the mask, I noticed a contouring effect, especially along the jawline.  Over four uses, I noticed that it was smoothing out some texture issues around my nose and mouth.  The mask also has a slight cooling effect.

Overall, I liked the mask.  Using a thicker layer certainly upped the impact.  The trouble was, I ran through the product quickly as a result, and at $67 a jar, that isn’t ideal.  (Six to ten applications is what the jar seems to hold.)

Bottom line, I loved this mask. I paired it with my collagen sheet mask, and I felt like the difference was visible.  And not just immediately visible, but that I even noticed a difference two days after I used it.  No sleep, a couple of drinks, a fussy baby, this mask doesn’t fix, but heavens, does it help you feel like you’re living right.

And, if you’re wondering, I did rebuy it when it was empty.  With the legislative session going, my family to tend to, and a sick pup, I needed it. So it is officially part of my routine.

Hi Abra! I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for sharing your review of this mask. I’d seen several folks sing its praises on Instagram, but you’re the person whose opinion I trust. That trust comes from 10ish years of reading this blog. I’m sure this season of life is hectic for you, so I want to say: thank you. Maintaining this space takes time and effort, and I so appreciate you for doing it! And now that I know your thoughts on this mask…I’m adding it to my cart.

Thank you for this review! I’ve been seeing this mask on Grace’s acct (and TIBAL) and have been considering – I appreciate the real life explanation.

Would love to know if there are other masks you’re liking these days. I like the Tata Harper resurfacing mask, but always open to new ones.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
