The Range: Chic Winter Boots

Dec 20, 2022

The temperatures in Montana this week will be bitterly, horrifyingly cold.  Think -15 degrees for a high with 18-24 inches of snow.  I guess it’s time to dig out my snow boots.  If you’re hunting for a new pair, here are a few suggestions.

These Sorel Kinetic Boots are a sleek, sporty option for commuters.  The suede outsole and leather details are waterproof.

These Santana Canada boots are perfect for a winter ski trip.  I love the faux-fur lining to keep warm in the chilly temperatures.

These Kamik Sienna Boots are awesome for slushy weather.  The rubber lowers make them a waterproof option, and the all-black color way make them the perfect choice for wearing with leggings.

Need a wide boot?  These Columbia Minx Booties come in several colors and wider widths.  They’re also a very flexible boot, making them a comfortable choice for walking around.

The Columbia Minx boots are my everyday choice for Maine winters. They keep my feet warm no matter what (the boots are rated to -25F). I wore them to meet Bonhomme at winter Carnaval in Quebec a few years back when the daily high was -10F and really tested the limits. My toes stayed warm after hours (with a heated insoles tucked inside) while my friends with Sorels had to keep running inside to prevent the onset of hypothermia. My only gripe is the boots start to loose their insulation value after two years of daily wear and must be replaced accordingly. Still, I’m on my third pair.

I got the Minx for a recent trip and they were great – comfy enough to slide on and walk around town, and I was able to lace them up tight and put on crampons for glacier walking. Very comfy and warm.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
