Thursday Outfit: All the Fall Classics

Oct 6, 2022

I’m not big on trends — my wardrobe budget simply doesn’t stretch far enough to flit from one trend to another —  but this fall, the trends turn toward classics.  This week’s outfit embraces all the fall classic pieces for fall in a fresh and modern way.  So let’s get to it.

Camel jacket?  Check.  Striped sweater?  Check.  Light wash denim?  Check.  These pieces are perennial favorites, but this fall they are fresh, trendy choices.  And this photo found on Pinterest brings them all together beautiful.

Blazer // The key to getting this look right is to choose a more fitted style that won’t look bulky.  You also want a darker camel color, which feels more luxurious than the lighter hue.  Here are some blazers that embody those qualities.

I couldn’t miss an opportunity to show my favorite blazer from Banana Republic.  In a dark camel color, it is perfection.  If you don’t love the gold buttons, try J.Crew’s Regent Blazer (also in plus).  Or if you need something under-$100, this J.Crew Factory blazer is worth a look.

Sweater // To capture the knitted, slightly chunky weave of the inspiration striped sweater, this Alex Mill sweater is the one you need.  You wouldn’t think something as small (literally) as a sweater’s weave pattern would change the whole look of a garment, but it definitely does.  The wider, airier weave gives the sweater a fresh, Nantucket in October look.

Other sweater options include this <$75 smooth weave sweater.  I also found this cool navy sweater with a double stripe pattern.  It’s very unique, and yet still preppy and classic.  Plus-size?  Try this Madewell sweater.

Jeans // Lighter wash denim is on order for fall.  I like the color of these Madewell vintage straight jeans.  They give you a modern look without turning too far toward Mom jeans.  I also really like this bootcut style from Gap in a similar wash.

Belt // It’s hard to find a stylish belt that doesn’t break the bank.  This Ralph Lauren slide buckle leather belt, however, is very chic and under-$75.  Plus, it will look equally stylish with jeans or a dress.  It also comes in black.

Shoes // When the inspiration photo shows a pair of Converse Chuckie-Ts, you just stick with the look.  Because there is no more classic sneaker than a Chuck Taylor.

Necklace // I adore the mixed link style of this slightly chunky necklace from Clare V.  It’s smashing.

Bag // The flap satchel isn’t as popular this season as it has been, so I needed to look for a slightly different style.  This Italist bag with a twisted leather handle and no designer markings looks much more expensive than its <$175 price tag.  It has a very elegant look to it that translates for work or brunch.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
