Three Looks for Summer Weddings

May 31, 2022

For many of us, this is the summer of weddings.  Courthouse weddings.  Big weddings in cathedrals.  Destination weddings.  All kinds of weddings.  So here are a few options for wedding attire to get you thinking about how to style looks for all of these weddings.

Look No. One Destination Stunner Headed to Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawai’i or some similarly tropical locale?  This tiered maxi dress from Mango in a spectacular floral print is for you.

This frock dresses up with the help of a nude-to-me sandal, a lavender clutch (to complement the print) and a set of hammered bangles.  I chose the bracelets because I didn’t want to do anything to mess with the delicate neckline.  But on the subject of necklines, this one will necessitate a strapless bra, so hit up Wacoal STAT.

Want to make this look more casual?  Get a coral flat sandal, a small raffia tote and a set of large, thin hoop earrings.

For the makeup options, I would keep this on the minimal side given the colorful print.  Probably a dusty pink lip and a shimmering bronze eyeliner.

Looking for more floral options?  This wrap maxi from Adrianna Papell is lovely.  I also like this  pink dress with poppies from Gabby Skye.  Plus-size?  This navy printed dress from Connected is lovely.

Look No. Two — Understated Ease This H&M wrap dress is the pick for when you need to look nice, be comfortable, and look semi-casual.  And if the wedding you’re headed to is more formal, this is a nice rehearsal dinner look.

I wanted to bring a little life to this simple dress, so I added accessories in different hues of blue.  It keeps the look understated and adds a bit of color, starting with the breezy aqua drop earrings (also in white tone metal).

Acrylic clutches are big this year, and this Cult Gaia clutch perfectly explains why.  I love the swirly pattern in the material.  (This would make a great something blue for a modern bride.)  If you want the same look for less, this Olga Berg clutch is a stunner.

For the shoes, I stuck to a simple heel in a light blue hue.  If your wedding is more casual, these bow-front Loeffler Randall slides are charming.

Because this look is understated, I’d pump up the volume on the makeup.  I’d likely choose a deep raspberry lipstick, like Amazing Amal.  And for the hair, I’d wear mine in teased waves and let it be the star of the show.

Look No. Three — Evening Drama — This dress from City Chic comes in regular and plus-size.  It’s selling out, so hit up Macy’s if you don’t see yours at Nordstrom.  But I love how the neckline and off the shoulder style give you that evening look without being a full gown.  It’s a great bridge between cocktail and formal.

Because the dress has so much zazz, I decided to keep the accessories simpler.  The long dangle drop earrings are thin and sparkly.  The clutch is bold in gold-flake acrylic, but not overpowering (or go simple with this gold foldover option).

Also, the clear sandals let your legs go on for days. This is a serious trend this summer. I also like these Cult Gaia sandals with a statement heel. And if your legs need a little bronzer, mix these drops into your lotion for a couple of days.  It’ll give you smooth color, especially with a mitt applicator.

If you wanted a bit of color, you can go monochromatic with darker hues of purple or bolder with a bit of mint.

Looking for other off-the-shoulder options?  This bright fuchsia is pretty fun.  This color block option from Susanna Monaco reads like a party in South Florida.  Or try something more subtle that you can wear in any season, like fitted black.

For the hair, it’s going up.  I want to show off those shoulders with something sleek and easy.  I would also break out my highlighting and contouring palette to really give those cheekbones a lift.

Link for the gold-flake acrylic purse in Look #2 is for the thin drop earrings. Thanks for the suggestions!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
