Thursday Outfit: Edgy Casual for Spring

May 12, 2022

Today’s outfit comes to us from the streets of New York City.  With an edgy, rocker chic this casual look takes spring vibes up a notch.  Here’s how to recreate it.

This look from Heidi Klum is perfect for strolling around the city or heading out to a slightly-more-than casual dinner (whether with friends or a date).  And if the weather hasn’t heated up where you live (we haven’t hit 70-degrees, and probably won’t before June), this look keeps you seasonally dressed and warm.

Dress // This ATM Sleeveless sheath dress is the closest thing to the image I found.  It’s swingy, it’s summery and it’s very chill.  But the price is a little high.  So if you want a white maxi for under-$100, hit up Caslon.  Plus-size?  Try this Tommy Hilfiger dress.

Don’t care if the dress is white?  Open Edit has a great sleeveless maxi that reverses, so you can wear it crewneck or v-neck.  Daily Ritual also has a fabulous choice in several colors, but the dark green is my favorite.

Jacket // BlankNYC makes the best vegan leather jacket.  Because the inspiration image has the silver hardware, I chose one with the same look.  But I vastly prefer their In Demand jacket which has black hardware instead.  So chic.  Plus-size?  Blank has you covered at Nordstrom.

Shoes // A really simple sandal that goes with anything is a summer staple.  This t-strap sandal from Nine West is always comfortable and never out of style.  I also love this dainty Kaanas sandal from Madewell — the braided straps are so breezy and cool.

Bag // The snake-print bag is really what pulls this entire look together.  Without it, it’s still stylish, but the bag completes it.  And this Joanna Maxham satchel is absolutely sublime.  Carry it in any season for almost any occasion.  Need something less expensive to finish out your look?  This Urban Expressions tote would make a great travel bag, especially for under-$40.

Accessories // I added a pair of silver hoops to this look to lift it with a bit of sparkle.  I love the twisty pattern on these small hoops from Wolf & Badger.  If you like to shop independent, small makers, W&B is the place to go.

Styling Ideas // Heidi’s hairstyle here is perfect for this look.  It’s styled, but unfussy.  So I would recommend wearing your hair down, however it naturally grows from your head (straight, curly, etc.).

For the makeup, I like the nude-to-her polish on her fingers.  My favorite is Essie Wild Nude.  And for the pink cheek, try a cream blush like this one from Westman Atelier.

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
