Monday Outfit: Business Casual, No Jeans

Dec 20, 2021

Business casual often means denim, but not all the time.  This outfit is the perfect option for those whose workplace as a different definition of casual.  And if your office is dressy, this is your Friday outfit.

This outfit from my friend, Jean, has everything you need for sophisticated business casual.  The look has a relaxed vibe, but the pieces are on point.  Let’s recreate it.

Sweater. A cool sweater in a pale neutral is a wardrobe staple for me.  I love the look.  It’s less severe than black, but just as classic.  This Nordstrom Signature cashmere sweater is a great option (and it’s on sale right now).  For something a little more casual, this BP. sweater is under-$30.  Plus-size?  J.Crew has a cashmere mockneck sweater that is sublime (also in misses).

Pants. How great are these olive MM LaFleur pants?  They’re the perfect hybrid of sweatpants and trousers.  Soft, stretchy, comfortable, and amazing.  MM LaFleur also makes this color in their popular Foster pant.

These paperbag waist pants in olive are also fantastic.  Plus-size?  MM’s pants also come in plus.  I also like this wide leg pair from Standards and Practices.

Shoes. Leopard flats are a must in my wardrobe.  I love these the leather-strap detail on these Journee flats.  These Bella Vita flats are similar to Rothy’s at 1/3rd the price.  Need a larger size?  These Steve Madden flats run wide and up to 13.

Bag. How fantastic is this Anya tote from Thacker? It’s a little bit chic and unique, but subtly so.  And for under-$200, it’s a great bag.  Thacker has some awesome bags; their Hobo Bag is my favorite.

Earrings. These Karine Sultan drop earrings are incredible.  They’re simple and easy to wear, but they also have a bit of impact.  They also come in silver.  The whole line is awesome; she also makes clip earrings, which you never see anymore.  Looking for something with a little more wow?  These labradorite drop earrings are the bomb.

Styling. Add in a subtle berry lip color for a bit of color.  And I would wear my hair down in my natural style.

Those pants are a beautiful color!

I ordered the sweater in navy, and I am in love. It is just the right weight, thick and warm without being bulky or too hot indoors. The fit is relaxed but not as boxy as some of this season’s sweaters from, say, Banana Republic — it is a much more classic shape. The mock neck is perfect — relaxed, not constricting, but structured enough not to look sloppy. I am 5’4 and 140 lbs — I wear a 29 in jeans and a small or medium in tops. The small fit me well, and I ordered another in ivory because I love this sweater so much! I find the Nordstrom’s website overwhelming, so I really appreciate this great find.

Great post! I esp like that you create a whole look, including accessories and makeup/hair. Thanks!

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
