Gift Week: Amazing Gifts Over-$400

Oct 18, 2021

You’ve likely heard about the supply chain issues that will make gift giving a challenge this holiday season.  Retailers big and small are encouraging shoppers to buy their gifts soon.  So this week, the morning post will feature great gifts in different price points, starting with pricier gifts and decreasing in cost all week.

My husband has owned every coffee maker known to man — the Nespresso, the french press, all of the pour-over accoutrements.  But when we bought the Breville Touch Espresso Machine, they all went into storage.  This machine perfectly grinds the beans, brews the espresso, and froths the milk.  We have stopped going for coffee completely, so the machine has almost paid for itself.

There are other Breville espresso machines that are a little bit cheaper, but we love the Touch for the full automation and the easy cleanup.

Jenni Kayne is the brand of the moment.  Her Cashmere Cocoon Cardigan is considered the gateway drug that leads to pure JK addiction.  The sweater is soft, high quality, and (when stored properly) the sweaters should last for years.

If you’re looking for similarly luxurious cashmere, Naadam has some lovely choices.  I like this shawl collar a lot.

The Dyson Airwrap hair drying, curling, and straightening device has been a favored gift for a few holiday seasons now.  But this Prussian Blue color with copper accents is pure wow.  I haven’t purchased this item yet, but I have tried it, and it’s really interesting and does a nice job of curling hair.  Nordstrom Rack also sells a refurbished version for $120-off.

This Tory Burch crossbody bag is the perfect casual bag.  It has separate compartments and zipped pocket.  The strap is wide, and made of webbed material, so it’s comfortable for long term wear.

Yes, you could go with a high-end designer option like the Gucci Disco Bag, but this TB bag checks all the boxes.  Looking for something closer to $250?  This Oryany bag has a good look to it.

Advent calendars are a fun way to give the person you care for a number of gifts spread out over a period of time.  This Advent calendar from Missoma is such a great mix of useful everyday jewelry — from a mask chain, to great earrings, to a cool necklace.  I own several pieces of their jewelry, and they’re fantastic.

Selfridge’s has a wonderful selection of Advent calendars.  Net-a-Porter has several high-end beauty calendars.

Thanks, Abra! So glad it’s Gift Week here! I actually woke up in a panic this morning thinking about finishing my Christmas gifts early this year, and I came here hoping you would have gifts today! These items are truly impressive, but I can’t wait to see what you come up with in an under $50 and under $100 range. And I need $50 and under gifts for college-aged girls in my family!

Has your Naadam cashmere pilled? I had a cashmere hoodie and puff long sleeve crewneck from them, and the hoodie pills like crazy, and the crewneck pills more than a high end brand but still more than I like. It is item to item?

Have you guys ever tried Jura?

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
