Monday Outfit: Stripes on Stripes

Aug 9, 2021

Sometimes I spot an outfit and the concept is so cool and so simple that I wonder how I haven’t thought of it before.  This outfit from influencer Ewelina Kanty is such an outfit.  And once you see it, you’ll want to wear it often.

Tops // The mixing of striped prints in the same color palette is fantastic idea.  This La Ligne sweater and & Other Stories Breton gives you the same look.  If you want to tees, try this wider stripe tee from Ralph Lauren.  Or add a bit of zazz with this Theory top with a blue-stripe accent.

Pants // These Vince Camuto slim pants are one of the simplest, sleekest options on the market.  They also come in plus-size.  Prefer a higher waist?  Ann Taylor has you covered with these classic, Audrey Hepburn-inspired pants.  Petite?  Try this pair from Banana Republic.

Handbag // Chain bags are a classic.  This quilted, chain bag from Charles + Keith is a great affordable option.  It gives you all of the look of a more expensive bag for under-$75.  For a more expensive bag that doesn’t cost a week’s pay, you have two options: the Tory Burch chain bag or the Rebecca Minkoff one, which has a bit more of a rocker-chic feel in all black.

Shoes // The sandals in Ewelina’s photo are adorable, but not really work appropriate.  If you want something similar, try this pair from BP. with a block heel and simple strappy look.  But I needed something office-friendly, so these Steve Madden mules with a cool chain accent do the trick.

Need a simple flat?  Try these Naturalizer ones with a black snake-embossed look.  Want something on trend?  Go for a combat boot to get that 90s-redux look.

Jewelry // I’m wearing less and less jewelry these days, so a single pair of earrings feels like the right move here.  These croissant-twist hoops from Missoma look great with a jewel accent.  I also like these Kendra Scott studs with a modern feel.

Makeup // Beige polishes are my new favorite.  I’m in love with this slightly pink shade from Nails, Inc..  The line has several nude-to-you shades from dark to light.  They also have a few with shimmer.  They’re all fantastic.

Keeping it neutral on the nails, means you need a little color on the lips.  Gucci’s Rouge de Beaute is my new favorite lipstick.  All of the shades are great, the consistency is glossy without being sticky, and it wears well.

This look is a great option for when you need something simple that looks fashion forward.  It’s an easy look for travel, work, or a lunch with friends.  If you like the look, you could recreate it in navy or another hue.

This is so cool. I don’t feel like I can pull off the over the shoulder sweater – other suggestions for how to style it?

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
