We first make our habits, and then our habits make us. // John Dryden

+ ‘My Slightly Unreal Pandemic Pregnancy.’ (A gem. A true gem.)

+ This $25 shirt-tail hem tee is my new favorite.

+ One Skillet Greek Meatballs with Lemon-Butter Orzo.

+ Casual Work Outfit: A dotted shirt-dress + braided sandals + hoop earrings.

+ Anxious about going back to the office?  This is probably why.

+ Eloquii is having an awesome sale.  This $25 dress is ????.

+ Influencers talk about the ‘#NSale’ and why we’re not jazzed about it.

+ Tennis skirts are an athleisure revelation. 14-yr-old me is like, ‘duh.’

+ How to ask for a raise during tough times.

+ Shop Buru‘s slogan is ‘Mom Life, Styled.’  Love this bright print.

+ Christine Baranski talks ‘The Good Wife’ and why it’s good to be scared.

+ New arrivals at J.Crew.  This is the sweetest floral dress.

+ ‘I Had a Great Job Interview — Why Haven’t I Heard Back?’

+ This $8 exfoliating facial tool is a travel essential.

+ #BigHoopEnergy is about more than the earrings you wear to work.

+ I stock the fancy cherries for Old Fashioneds. They’re essential.

Long Read. The Devil Wears Prada, and the Myth of the ‘One and Only’ Big Break.  Because that’s not how life works.

How do I know when I’m feeling overwhelmed?

I clean and I bake.

Then, I stealthily leave the baked goods on neighbors’ doorsteps because having 24 cupcakes in a house with only two people in it (one of whom doesn’t eat sweets) is like holding a grenade with a wonky pin in your hand.

These Sourdough Blueberry Crumble Muffins from Little Spoon Farm seemed to be a hit.  Serve them slightly warm with unchilled butter.  They’re also nice with clotted cream if you’re having people over.  For an at-home brunch, all you need is these muffins, fruit salad, and a frittata.

Really resonated with the bighoopenergy article! As a non-white lawyer in a predominately white town, I rock my hoops at work often.

  2. Ac says:

Wonderful articles about dispelling tired tropes and calling out how horrible they were for women coming of age when the “girl boss” archetype was being shoved down our throats left and right. I’m in my mid 30’s in a decision-making position, and I hope to retire some of the unhealthy ideas around hustle culture so that young women can focus on the quality of their work to get noticed.

Loved the Christine Baranski piece – thank you for sharing!

  4. Jill says:

That pandemic pregnancy article was so good. I teared up a little. Thank you for sharing it!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

Three Outfits I’ll Wear All Spring

When I started this blog, influencers still re-wore clothes. There were no haul videos filled with the latest from Shein before it winds up in a beach in Ghana poisoning the planet. There were no sponsored campaigns delivering fresh wardrobes each month. The content machine doesn’t like reruns.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
