The Range: Summer Dresses from Brooks Brothers

Jun 16, 2021

It’s a dark time in the professional-fashion blog business.  Retailers, flummoxed by the pandemic, have created summer collections that consist almost exclusively of sundresses and tie-dye lounge sets with shorts.  So if you have to be in court, or in a committee hearing, or in an office with professional dress, I guess you need to pretend that you didn’t get your vaccine, and head on home to your soft clothes.

Not that there was a lot to choose from before, but when Ann Taylor looks like she’s dressing for a summer picnic (in an outfit of giraffe-printed, linen blends) the options for professional women are severely limited.

So where do we turn?  To Brooks Brothers, whose wares are office appropriate and on significant discount right now (most dresses are under-$100).  Let’s go dress shopping!

This floral shirtdress is perfect for a casual Friday or for a quick office check-in. It costs ~$65.

The navy a-line sheath gets a fresh update with a button-front and side pockets. ~$65

This pinstriped cotton dress would look great with a more substantial belt. ~$65

This shawl collar cotton dress is a great look for summer, dressed up or down. ~$85

I like this tie-neck dress because it can be worn in any season with a jacket or without. $~100

It’s such a shame that Brooks Brothers doesn’t do inclusive sizing. They had a brief period a decade ago, and I still have a few pieces from that year or two.

There are some beautiful dresses in this sale! Thank you! Curious, how does sizing run for Brooks Brothers? My sizing has changed a little with COVID and I’m not sure how to purchase for my body. Is it similar to J Crew sizing or Banana Republic? Or does it run larger than those brands? Any help is appreciated!

As someone who is smaller on top and bigger on bottom, I find that I buy TTS in dresses and one size down in shirts.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
