Looks for Summer Weddings

May 26, 2021

As we move out of the pandemic, we move back into wedding season.  Many couples postponed until this summer, so my dance card is full this year.  And I’m sure some of you are in the same boat.

Here are a few looks to get you through wedding season in style.

The Pink Dress // This J.Crew Georgette Dress is versatile enough to wear casually or to a semi-formal wedding.  The key is to choose the right accessories.  I recommend a simple beige sandal and a raffia clutch.

The dress runs up to size 16.  On most women, it will benefit from having the hem lifted a few inches so it falls below the knee, not at mid-calf.  The clutch is pricey, but I own one of these and I have carried it to dozens of events.  If you’re looking for a cheaper one, I found this New Day clutch with a fun twisted detail.

Like pink?  I also found this Dress the Population frock, and this butterfly-sleeve dress in deep magenta.  Under-$100, this Laundry Dress is worth a look.  Plus-size?  Try this Alex Admor faux wrap dress.

The Floral Dress // The small floral print on this Banana Republic dress is a nice choice for a relaxed wedding.  It also comes in tall and petite.  I added a simple gold sandal and a bright orange clutch.

If you like floral print, this is a good summer to be you.  I love this $40 Gabby Skye floral dress.  This Ralph Lauren dress is also a nice choice.  Plus-size? Don’t miss this cheery floral wrap dress.

The Green Dress // I love how relaxed this Whistles Cape Dress looks.  It feels like the kind of dress that would be comfortable to wear and dance in all night.  I chose a flat braided-leather shoe because dancing the night away is easier in flats.  I also loved this Express clutch in a white leather with a wood handle.  This is the kind of bag that gets complimented every time you carry it.

Eloquii makes a similar style for plus-size ladies.  I also like this hot pink crepe overlay sheath.

The Floral Plus-Size One // The off-the-shoulder style and floral print on this City Chic dress are very cool.  I paired it with a yellow clutch to bring out the goldenrod color in the print, and chose a simple black heel to finish it.  The clutch is pretty spectacular.  It also comes in black or teal, and features a large, statement-making chain.

If you like off-the-shoulder styles, this Dress the Population dress is worth a look.  And this Calvin Klein dress has a bold flamenco-like quality to it.

LOVE that Express clutch. Hoping it’ll go on sale this weekend.
I’m in the thick of preparing for a wedding season with a different body than I had in 2019, so new dresses are crucial. Loving the bright colors!

Love these picks! I hope we’ll get a fall wedding guest round up too? That’s when all mine got moved to! Including one in Vegas where the after party is at a club!! Hard to decide how to dress for both occasions…

I hunted down the Kayu gold raffia clutch on their website after it sold out at J.Crew, and it is sooo much nicer in person than I expected. I will be carrying it to my wedding 🙂 I was kinda like, “a raffia clutch can’t possibly be worth $200” but it looks/feels the price tag, very luxe and high-end.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
