Monday Outfit: A WFH Transition Outfit

Mar 15, 2021

When I went back to the office, I got plunged into the icy pool of office wear with little warning.  One minute, I was cozy and comfortable in a pair of leggings.  The next minute, I was pinched and squeezed into too small work attire.  It’s been misery.

I recommend, that if you know you are heading back to work this summer, to start dressing up a bit now.  Just one or two days a week, put on clothes that aren’t athleisure.  Do you hair.  Wear makeup.  Get up and get ready like usual.  Trust me, your psyche and your body with thank you.  Because going from an isolated WFH experience to the office was brutal.

So here is an outfit that bridges the winter to spring transition, and also the WFH to casual Friday transition.

This outfit is the definition of easy.  Four pieces.  Nothing too expensive.  This outfit could work for WFH, a casual Friday, or a weekend work day.  So let’s go through it.

Dress // This denim, Western-style dress from Old Navy is the closest to the example that I could find.  I actually prefer their Chambray shift dress that has a quarter-button style collar.  It feels a little dressier, but that could just be a personal preference coming through.  If you want one with a tie-belt, try this one from The Outnet.

Plus-size?  This Tommy Hilfiger dress and this Land’s End belted dress are both nice.

Sweater // This oatmeal colored sweater from Goodnight Macaroon is a loose-fitting basic that would look nice over a casual or professional outfit.  Need the pockets?  This one from Isaac Mizrahi has you covered.  I also like this Splendid Open Front Cardigan.  Plus-size?  Isaac Mizrahi has you covered.

Shoes // I stuck with sneakers here (even though I can’t wear them to work) to be true to the inspiration outfit.  I chose these Veja sneakers with metallic accent because they seem the simplest and most versatile.  They also come in a wide selection of other colors.  Wide feet? Another option would be these simple white-on-white Journee sneakers.

Unable to wear sneakers to work?  I would choose either a leopard Rothy or these Vionic tortoise flats.

Earrings // These gold beaded mini-hoops from Missoma are so adorable.  Just a little bit different and fun, but still simple.  Or add a pop of color with these enamel hoops.

Styling // For the hair and makeup, keep it simple.  This is supposed to be a relaxed look.  If you want to add a bit of something extra, I recommend a bright cheek color like Bobbi Brown Pale Pink that wears as a pretty flush of watermelon.

Love this look, Belle! Found a similar dres from Land’s End is a cross between the denim and chambray and has a belt!

Old Navy has a lot of cute spring/summer dresses right now that are good for transitioning out of sweatpants, the kind of stuff that looks juuuuust dressy enough for a casual office if you wear a decent cardigan.

Anyone familiar with Worth or W by Worth or The Worth Collection clothing? Anyone have any similar suggestions now that it has closed?

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
