The Range: Long Puffer Coats

Feb 17, 2021

The Montana cold has clearly made its way south.  I hope that you’re keeping warm.  We hit 25-degrees here today, so it’s a heat wave.  But I thought a few of you could use a suggestion for a warm, long, puffy coat.

Corner Office

Save the Duck Hooded Long Coat ($298)

Save the Duck makes cruelty free outerwear, so the coat is 100% nylon.

Cubicle Farm

Bernardo EcoPlume Puffer ($150)

This coat is made from recycled plastic bottles.

Front Desk

Tahari Brooklyn Puffer Coat ($80)

Plus-Size

Weathercast Puffer Coat ($133)

I live in Maine and have had a mid-weight Save the Duck coat for four years. I wear it every day in the winter, wouldn’t dream of wearing anything else. It’s seriously the warmest coat I’ve ever owned. I can’t recommend this brand enough: great product and great mission.

I just bought a long Marmot Chelsea coat this year and couldn’t be more thrilled. Spendy but worth it for this Midwesterner who runs very cold and doesn’t like winter. It is down on the inside with a waterproof material on the outside. When I was looking at coats, the saleswoman told me that the seams on puffer coats allow wind to get through. It is very warm without being bulky. Highly recommend.

I love the Bernardo coats. Such good quality for the price. I have one similar to the one you picture. So warm, plus they are actually made for women who have hips. That seems to be a novel concept when it comes to most longer coats.

The Find: A Versatile Sweater Jacket

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.
