Thursday Outfit: Bring on the Cable Knits

Nov 12, 2020

Nothing says the winter season like cable knits.  The chunky, cozy sweaters can be worn with jeans, leggings, pencil skirt, trousers, whatever you have on offer.  But this outfit is the perfect casual ensemble for relaxed workdays or dressy weekends.

I tried to do a Google image search, but I could not find the origin for this inspiration photo.  But I adore this look.  I love the ease of it.  That’s one thing that I am always trying (and usually failing) to bring into my style, that feeling of effortlessness.  And this outfit feels like she tossed it on, even though I’m sure she labored over the details.

Coat // This ivory coat from Ann Taylor has appeared on the blog before.  It’s a lovely, feminine coat.  For something more casual, I love this swingy coat from J.Crew.  This pale oatmeal coat from & Other Stories gives you a similar look in a slightly darker color in case white scares you.

Plus-size? Try this Marks and Spencer coat.  Petite?  This light tan Calvin Klein coat is worth a look.

Sweater // The inspiration sweater has a lovely chevron knit, a difficult to find pattern.  So I chose this classic cable knit from Banana Republic instead.  Also available in petite.

Banana Republic also has this incredible knit sweater with a unique texture.  I also like this v-neck tunic from Treasure & Bond.  Plus-size?  Try this Karen Scott sweater.

Jeans // The slightly distressed boyfriend jeans are the jeans for how we live now.  They’re a slightly looser fit, a relaxed cut that just exudes casual cool.  I chose these Citizens of Humanity jeans, but these affordable Kut from the Kloth jeans are also a good choice.

Belt // This Frame belt is one you see on a lot of influencers, so to pick it up on sale is a nice thing.  I love the simple, sophisticated styling of it.  Want something more casual?  Try this belt from Madewell.

Bag // I wanted a really big satchel for this look, and this Marcy satchel from Ralph Lauren is a good pick.  I also like this vegan-leather bag from Matt & Nat.

Scarf // Love the idea of using a folded scarf for a pop of color.  And whenever we start traveling again, it’s nice for the plane.  This knit-fringe scarf from Urban Outfitters is nice, I also like this smoother knit scarf from & Other Stories.

Shoes // These Sava suede flats are nice option for more casual wear.  For work, try these buckle-accented Sam Edelman flats.

Earrings // I couldn’t resist these sweet little drop earrings from Wolf & Badger.  The sapphire accents are so dainty and precious.  I just adore these hoops.

This is adorable, but can you put together some looks that can be worn with boots (and socks! I get cold feet!) for those of us in areas with real winters/lots of snow?

Looks so put together! I really enjoy your outfits posts – gives me lots of ideas. Thanks for all that you do!

For those who have owned white outerwear – how hard its it to keep it from getting dirty? I love the look but, as Belle suggested, I fall into the category of someone who is scared of white.

I love everything about this look. I own a lot of cashmere sweaters, and I’m always trying to figure out how to wear them with jeans without looking like a slob. This super helps (I think it is the belt?)

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
