I was finishing up a post about something else when I saw this on the Ann Taylor website: $189 suit jackets discounted to $75, $149 dresses are $50. Lady lawyers, government staffers, women who are back in the office, this is not a drill.
The Suiting Sale can be found here. They’re also stocking petites in this sale.
So where would I spend my money in a sale like this? Personally, I would use the One and One Rule: One classic that I can wear forever, and one trendier piece that will be a fun extra for days when I need a boost.
In my case, I have two black suits, so I don’t need another one. But this dark charcoal definitely caught my eye. That’s a suit that I can wear all year with different hues depending on the season. I grabbed it with the pants and the skirt (which is now sold out).
All three pieces were $175. So I got everything I needed for less than the cost of the jacket’s msrp.
As for the fun suit, I liked this Midnight Spruce hue. I will definitely wear the side-zip pants with ivory, burgundy, grey and black pieces. So I grabbed the jacket too. I probably won’t wear both pieces together often, but it’s nice to have a fun suit for off-site client meetings.
If you need blouses or tops to go with your new suits, the entire site is also 40%-off full size styles with code 48Hours. I suggest you hurry, word is getting around the professional blogger sites and all of the skirts are going fast.

Well, if I hadn’t already exceeded my trendy pieces quota for the month, I’d buy the Midnight Spruce pants, which would look fabulous with the Midnight Spruce spotted puff sleeve sweatshirt you forced me to buy last week. I guess I’ll just have to wear the sweatshirt with yesterday’s Vuori joggers instead.
I’m fortunate to be spared from wearing suits for the foreseeable future, but I just snagged the gorgeous sweatshirt you shared the other week for less than $40 with this sale!
Thank you so much for this post! I’ve been needing a good staple suit and I (finally) pulled the trigger on a navy 3 piece – jacket, pants, and skirt.
Thanks for the blog–this post reminded me of a question for you–do you mind sharing what your top professional workwear bloggers you like following? Thanks!
Thank you for the recommendation! I just bought the midnight spruce suit and the sweatshirt from last week, as I had somehow missed the sale for the sweatshirt previously. This almost makes me excited to go back to my office.
Abra, where do you stand on business professional dress predictions post pandemic? Assuming it ever ends, I’m starting to think this is forever. But seriously, I’m a working from home currently sales professional who *used* to wear suits but I keep hearing that the pandemic has forever changed fashion. Predictions?
Probably accurate. Things will likely relax. Maybe not attire wise, but I think high heel, makeup and manicure wise is a given.
