Two Ways: A Camel Blazer

Sep 10, 2020

This morning, I posted my favorite purchase of 2019: the J.Crew Regent Blazer in camel.  So I thought I would post a couple of outfit ideas for wearing the blazer — one for the office and one for work from home.

I decided to keep these outfits simple.  Overthinking my daily attire is not where my head is right now.  The tonal color palette makes adding a third layer a breeze, so you can easily use these outfits as a base for great jackets and cardigans.  Let’s talk about them.

Left // I bought a blue oxford shirt on a lark a few years ago, and it never ceases to amaze me how often I wear it.  Banana Republic is still my go-to choice for button-up shirts.  This Riley-fit shirt in pale blue runs sizes 0-20, tall and petite.  You could also swap it out for a denim or chambray shirt; I like this one from 1901.

I chose a distressed jean for this look.  These Ab-Solution jeans from Wit & Wisdom are great if you’re looking for a jean that holds you in.  Plus-size?  I like the wash on this pair from Eloquii.

A leopard shoe with this outfit just felt right.  I like these Madewell mules because they look and wear like slippers.  I also like my leopard Rothy’s, which have worn like iron over the last three years and still look new.

For the earrings, I chose this simple Gorjana stud.  I like that it has a clean look that’s still unique.  I also like Gorjana’s ball hoops for the same reason.

I would wear my hair down for this look.  I would recommend wearing it how it naturally falls, mine is very straight.  And I would add a bit of red lip tint because Zoom calls need something extra.

Right. Leggings are going to be a foundational part of my wardrobe this fall so I’m looking for ways to dress them up a bit.  That feels weird to say out loud giving my dislike for the prevalence of athleisure on the workplace, but COVID.  My go to leggings are the Lululemon Wunder Unders, but they’re so pricey that I’ve recently moved on to Colorfulkoala’s leggings, which thankfully have pockets to accommodate my phone on my daily sanity walks.

This Treasure & Bond Dobby shirt is the very best shirt I bought this spring.  It is breezy and loose, but looks professional on a work call. I wore the last one out after 100+ wears, so I need a new one.  If it’s sold out in your size, their classic shirt has the same drapey feel.

I can’t wear my slippers in public, so I often wear my Rothy loafers with leggings.  They run about a half size small, so be aware of that when ordering.  I also like these Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers.

For accessories, I chose these accented hoops.  Club Monaco really has the best jewelry.  I love their domed signet ring.

I typically wear this outfit when I need to see people but I don’t want it to look like I got dressed up for it or when I need to look professional from the waist up.  I like this outfit with an easy bun.  And I usually just wear bronzer for a little contour and good mascara, and let the Zoom beauty filter do the rest.

Love both of these looks! Classy, timeless, polished (but still comfy!) Trademark CapHillStyling.

  2. Emily says:

Just a note, Wit and Wisdom makes the same style jeans in plus size

I LOVE Madewell’s loafers and mules! I really like the look of these Remi mules, too bad they are sold out in most sizes. I also really like the Regent blazer, only in navy for me…just curious if you wear the collar popped as shown or down more often?

Monica I have the Regent in this color and the stretch grey, and I wear both with the collar popped as shown 99% of the time. I’m not generally a ‘collar-popper’ but it looks so sleek in this blazer, and I’ve only been questioned by one concerned Boomer at work. This is my favorite blazer, hands down.

  4. Erica says:

I LOVE the black look. I immediately ordered the blazer.

These are cute outfits, but I WFH primarily and still have to go to the office some. I would love comfy pants that are not leggings. If I need to run to the office or meet someone at an outside coffee shop, I don’t want to show up in a dressy top and leggings. I also don’t want to constantly changing my bottoms depending on whether or not I’m working from home that day. So if you have any ideas for almost comfy as leggings, but will work in a casual workplace pants that would be great. Between perimenopause and the COVID 15 situation, there is no way I’m putting on jeans!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
