Two Ways: A Fall Sweater, in July

Jul 22, 2020

I’m about to encourage you to do something that many of you will find completely bonkers.  I’m about to encourage you to buy a sweater, in July.  But hear me out, because this sweater is so good, that if you don’t buy it now, you will be kicking yourself in October when it will no longer be available.

It is so cold in my office.  I bought my husband a Nest system for our house for Christmas last year, and it thinks my home needs to be cold enough to chill meat.  I adjust.  I cajole.  But about 10:00AM, I find myself digging out a cardigan.  So if you’re also working in a cold environment, you can buy now and wear now.

Everyone else, buy this cardigan, tuck it safely into a drawer and prepare for chillier days ahead.

Sweater // How fun is this & Other Stories wrap sweater?  Did I tell you it was good?  I told you it was good.

The sweater comes in four colors: white melange (shown), grey, black, and turquoise.  All are gorgeous.  It’s the perfect topper for work dresses, casual frocks, jeans and leggings.  I snapped up the white and black because I know it’s going to be in heavy rotation come fall.

Plus-size?  Try this cotton Marks and Spencer sweater or this Eileen Fisher sweater.

Left // Since we’re working from home, which so often means working in athleisure, I thought I’d start with a simple leggings look.  Just something you can toss on on a busy morning that still looks like you made an effort.  The complementary necklines will be really flattering on.

My favorite leggings right now are, no joke, from Amazon.  They’re almost as good as my Lulus or Vuoris, but because they have pockets, they’re better for long walks and outdoor workouts.

I talked earlier this week about my love for these Adidas Cloudfoam running shoes.  I just wear them for errands and dog walking,  but they are so comfortable.  They’re like a vacation for your feet.

As for white tees, this Intermix tee is getting rave reviews from several influencers I follow.  It’s a little pricey at $58, but most of the reviews praise the weight of the fabric.  I haven’t tried it yet.  I still snap up Everlane tees when I need basics.

And finally, you may not wear a lot of jewelry with your casual gear, but these huggie hoops are always in style.  Just a little bauble to give you a bit of something extra.  And did I mention they’re under-$25?

Right // For this look, I wanted something that felt perfect for a crisp late summer evening.  The kind of outfit that you wear on a date in September, so you can stroll home together.

This dress from & Other Stories is purely fabulous.  It perfectly bridges the gap between dressy and casual.  Sadly, it’s selling out, but Banana Republic has a similar frock in white and this affordable v-neck chambray dress from Old Navy will do.  If you want to keep hunting for a similar look for yourself, just Google v-neck, button-front midi dress.

I like this Kensie sandal from Amazon because it’s a little bit different.  It’s got a unique shape and is a nicer version of a casual sandal.  If you want something a bit prettier, try this pearl-accented sandal from INC.

Finishing off the look, show off the v-neckline with some layered necklaces.  I chose this perfectly chic Adornia paper clip chain necklace and this Sterling Forever bezel-set pendant.  Together they’re a little bit modern and a little bit classic.
