The Beauty Range: Freshen Up Your Hair Color

Jun 12, 2020

With salons either closed or working limited schedules, we’re all looking for ways to care for own hair. Even though my roots are freshly done, regular appointments are harder to come by with salons social distancing.  So here are a few products that help you care for and extend the life of your color.

The dpHue Root Touch Up Kit is my favorite option for a quick fix for stubborn grey hair.  Just pick a color close to your root color and blend it in using the brush.  Looking for a less expensive option?  Revlon Root Erase is an Allure Best of Beauty Winner.

If your color just needs a boost, Rita Hazan’s True Color glosses are worth a look.  You apply them in shower to fight dullness, brassiness, and fading.  They come in small selection of colors, but anyone can use the clear gloss.  If you need a drugstore option,  John Frieda makes a well-reviewed color gloss.

dpHue makes a line of color protecting shampoos for brunettes and blondes to protect your color from brassy tones.  It helps keep your color fresher longer.  Matrix also makes a brass fighting conditioning mask to fight brassiness.

If you need just a quick Zoom touch up, this Color Wow Root Cover Up hides your roots/greys instantly.  The stiff brush makes quick work of applying the powder.  Need a less expensive option?  Clairol makes a similar root kit.

I can’t imagine I’m going to feel comfortable at a salon until there’s a vaccine, so I really appreciate this! (Not throwing shade to those who feel differently.) Question, I have dirty blonde hair that I highlight maybe 2-3 shades lighter. As it’s grown out my greys are really showing against the long dark roots, NAGL. I think the dp hue root touch up kit is the right thing for me, but what color? Do I try and match my dirty blonde roots? Will that make the issue worse? UGH.

  2. Greying says:

Do glosses make a difference if you’d otherwise dye your hair and are greying all over (not riots)? Or are they intended to boost dye?

  3. e says:

This is great. I used Evertone which was fun (I’m now a temporary ginger!) but it did nothing for my grays.

You mention your roots are freshly done – which method did you use?

  4. Monica T says:

Salons have reopened in my county as well with lots of extra precautions taken, and my stylist working 3 day weeks is booked through August at this point. While color was fairly optional for me since I only have highlighted dirty blonde that grows out natural looking, my curly hair needed a cut badly. And my hair never quite recovered from that bangs trim I did in week two of quarantine. Whoops. I have now learned that some beauty treatments are easily forgone and others should just be left to the professionals, because I stink at them.

  5. Elyse says:

A local salon is doing curbside pick up for at home hair color. I have light brown hair with lots of blonde highlights. What really helped, and will take me through several more months, was a clear hair color gloss that has some lift to it. You have to make sure you tell them that you need something with lift. It took away just enough of the ash color in my light brown hair to really make it grow in amazingly well!Sorry to say I don’t know any non-professional, over the counter clear glasses that would do the same. But if you have a salon by you that’ll mix up hair color for you, and you think this is your situation as well, ask for a clear gloss with lift.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
