WFH Summer: Relaxed Dresses <$100

May 26, 2020

The election is in one week, and life is moving at a frenetic pace.  Last week, there were multiple mornings when I woke up to the sound of a ringing phone and a reporter on the other end.  So if I want to be out of pajamas by noon, I need easy dresses.

Frocks that I can just throw on and go.  (Or go back to my office.)  Because if it isn’t comfortable and easy, I don’t want to wear it right now.  Here are a few dresses from Nordstrom Rack that bring ease to the at-home workday.

Eileen Fisher High/Low Shirtdress ($80)

Velvet Heart Tie Waist Dress ($35)

Madewell Button Dress (also in plus, $45)

Vince Tie Front Dress ($63)

Alex Mill Chambray Shirt ($45)

Annabel T-shirt Maxi ($70)

Nina Leonard Button-Front May ($35)

This is timely. I have been thinking that when we return to the office (not yet allowed or desirable in my state because case counts are still rising), we will want to strip into the laundry machine and take a shower upon coming home. Which means machine washable clothes only (and either all-darks or all-lights on any given day so that it can all go right in the same load).

WHY do dress designers and manufacturers think I want pockets on my chest!? I’m 5’6″, 133 lbs., and wear a 32F bra — small rib cage, bounteous breasts. I nursed two babies decades ago, and there’s been some droop-age in the years since then, so the last thing I want in a garment is useless chest pockets, especially since side pockets should be essential for every dress ever made. Rant over. I like your picks, Abra, and thank you for choosing dresses with sleeves. I, too, live with someone who equates spring/summer with arctic air conditioning, and I appreciate not having to factor in a daily sweater when the outside temps are in the 80s. Good luck with your very busy week!

A friend with 34Gs sews them shut so they lay completely flat. It helps, but it’s not a total fix.

Great ideas. I am ready to move from lounge pants to easy dresses. Especially as the weather warms up. Thank you

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
