WFH Summer Items: Wait, Jumpsuits?

May 20, 2020

As you know, I have never embraced jumpsuits and rompers.  First off, my pear shape is not usually flattered by a one-piece style.   And secondly, jumpsuits are a logistical nightmare when it comes to using public restrooms.  But now that that second thing is no longer a problem…it might be time to consider buying a jumpsuit.

The slouchier top on this H&M linen-blend jumpsuit helps balance out a pear-shaped figure.  The stripe is lovely and summery, but it also comes in a flattering black solid material as well.

H&M has a bunch of jumpsuits to choose from.  This pretty, flutter-sleeve jumpsuit and crepe, wrap-front jumpsuit are also worth a look.  Nordstrom Rack also has this adorable dark blue jumpsuit and this puff-sleeve olive jumpsuit.  LOFT also has a very comfortable-looking jumpsuit.  Or if you want to channel your inner Dave Chapelle, this cargo-style jumpsuit is for you.

Plus-size?  This Vince Camuto twill jumpsuit and this denim jumpsuit from Talbot’s are both worth a look.

Of course, jumpsuits aren’t for everyone.  But in these odd times, I am happy for comfort and something unique to add to my wardrobe rotation, so I am more than willing to give this style a try for at-home wear.

Channel your inner Dave Chappelle made me lol 🙂

I bought this (in black) on sale from Old Navy a few weeks ago and it has been an excellent WFH option. Comfortable like pajamas but makes me feel more polished.

I bought a jumpsuit right before shelter-at-home began. Haven’t tried it yet because I don’t think jumpsuits flatter but this post made me realize this is the BEST time to test if they work for me or not! Thank you.

I recommend the Express jumpsuits. I can’t get on the wide, crop leg jumpsuit trend (maybe for a beach vacation…). They have a lot with tapered and straight legs, which I like better and are more flattering on me. I have one that is basically like PJs and get tons of compliments when I wear it.

It’s funny that you brought this up because I just bought my first jumpsuit from Old Navy: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=551827022. It’s super comfortable, but part of me feels like it is too dressy or staying at home. I’m trying to determine if my WFH clothing purchases are for the life I am leading or the life that I think I should be leading! TBD on keeping it.

    • Bea says:

I bought that jumpsuit too and am pleasantly surprised! It’s a good fit for a curvy, average height 16 🙂

    • e says:

Yes! This is the one I tried (and failed) to link above.! I say keep it! It can totally be dressed up or down.

  6. sara says:

YES to jumpsuits. It IS tricky finding one that doesn’t give you diaper butt, but I think I have about 6 jumpsuits/rompers currently. They’re horribly versatile, and I’ve worn 2 to weddings.

If you’re petite, look at Anthropologie because they are much better proportioned.

  7. Liz says:

Fellow pear here. I think jumpsuits and rompers can be extremely flattering on us, as long as they are truly A-line with a very wide leg.

    • Andrea says:

+1 to that from a fellow pear. I find that jumpsuits with the pockets positioned on the front help, as well. You still get the storage without the additional hip bulge.

  8. anna says:

I’ve recently started considering shorts denim overalls. I don’t even know who I am.

    • Belle says:

I had a super cute pair of regular overalls in HS. Slim-fitting, dark denim, minimal hardware, if I could find those again, I would probably still wear them.

      • Caitlin says:

I have also been considering dark/black denim shortalls! I think the shorts keep it cute and casual, while full length overalls still read a little too farmer on me.

      • Elizabeth Tulasi says:

I would love some overall recommendations! There were some cute ones at madewell but they sold out. Need something that is not wide leg or too slouchy.

  9. Amanda says:

I just bought this fantastic Patagonia romper on sale – it will be awesome for this summer and a great travel piece when we can do that again… https://www.rei.com/product/143964/patagonia-fleetwith-romper-womens#product-reviews

  10. Niki says:

I bought the blue CK jumpsuit from Rack and I love it. It’s a bit short in the torso (not sure I am describing this right – it’s length from shoulder to crotch is not generous), but the fabric is thick and it’s really cute. I’m usually a 2 but the 4 fit best because of the aforementioned shortness. I also found a great polka dot one at Rack. Loving jumpsuits!

The Range: Eyelet Tops for Summer

Airy eyelet fabrics are one of my favorite spring/summer looks. White is, of course, the traditional fabric. But white is tough to wear when you have a toddler, so let’s go with navy this summer.
