We have all the light we need, we just need to put it in practice. // Albert Pike

+ How not to tank your relationship while in quarantine.

+ Waiting for my WFH shoes to arrive. They’re allegedly as comfy as slippers.

+ Removing a gel manicure safely. Rehydrate nails with this.

+ For relaxed work blouses, try a Placket Popover and this Lush blouse.

+ Make it Remote: A Survival Guide for At-Home Work.

+ Oversize is my new love language, and Eileen Fisher my Cyrano.

+ Four possible timelines for a return to ‘normal.’

+ Need an at-home wax? Bliss Poetic Wax is the best.

+ Many people are working from home, but who’s doing the “home” work?

+ Dream casual outfit: Off-Shoulder Top + Lacy Bra + Distressed Denim

+ Long Read: Three daughters murder their abusive father, then the drama begins.

A prayer, if you’re into that sort of thing, from Nadia Bolz-Weber:

For the layers of comfort and convenience that surrounded our lives and that we never considered a blessing but always just took for granted, forgive us.

For we who must grieve in isolation and not in community, comfort us.

For we who care for the sick, protect us.

For the ability to turn off the fear-mongering and unhelpful commentary and worst-case scenario click bait, strengthen us.

For the times when we are all out of creative ideas for how to get through this with cooped up kids, inspire us.

For we who are now cutting our own bangs at home, guide us.

For the grace to allow ourselves and others to just be less productive, shower us.

For the generosity needed from those of us who have more resources, empower us.

From our own selfish inclinations, deliver us.

For just being your children, none of whom have done a global pandemic before, love us.

For the days ahead, accompany us.

God unbound by time, help us to know that you are already present in the future we are fearing.  AMEN.

Love the prayer! Grace is the perfect word for what this situation calls for, we’re all struggling in our own ways. Silver lining – by the time anyone else sees them my bangs will be completely grown out again, WIN!

  2. Anon says:

Can you please report back on the Birdies? I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger on them but really like how they look.

    • Bee says:

I second this! Would make a great Saw It On Social!

    • Jessica C says:

I’m not Belle, obviously, but I was gifted the taupe suede Birdies for Christmas and I love them. I’ve had my eye on the leather one’s now!

    • Allison says:

I LOVE my Birdies. I initially ordered Rothy’s, but they were too slim for my feet (I don’t wear wide shoes, but those things are tiny). I have a pair of black Birdies and I wear them at home and to the office. Love the cushioned, slipper-like insoles.

  3. Kim says:

Love the prayer! I needed that tonight.

  4. Ellie says:

Thank you for all of this. Your blog and Instagram are such a source of reassurance.

My dark under eye circles have been the bane of my existence since I was 12. Is the cause lack of sleep? Dehydration? Sinus issues? Stress? Who the hell knows. But there they are, every day, telling the world that I am an exhausted working Mom.

Saw It On Social: The Battle of the Spendy Swimsuits

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
